A bunch of useless crap

I'm sure most of you heard about the Winter storm that hit the west coast, even if you haven't read my blog about the problems it caused me.

Well, I finally made it to my delivery in Three Lakes, WI this morning after holing up in a hotel in Wausau, WI last night. It was just too damn cold and windy when I pulled in there and checked in. MY GPS told me there was a Buffalo Wild Wings across the street from the hotel.

As it was Thanksgiving, the Buffalo Wild Wings was closed. Damn! I was really, really hungry. I had noticed that the bar & grill/bowling alley a few blocks down had a sign out that they were open so I walked down there to get some dinner.

It turned out that their kitchen was closed but the bartender offered to make me a pizza. Well, it was better than nothing. It was a standard frozen bar pizza but when one is seriously hungry anything will do. I think I would have liked a bit of alley cat with sweet and sour sauce instead, but it was ok.

I hung out there for a while, using my Archos unit to watch some music videos, drinking beer, and generally avoiding walking back to my hotel in that miserable, snowy weather.

When I finally made it to Three Lakes, to a customer whom I have hauled for in the past, I found "Skeeter" sitting behind his desk just waiting for me to show up. We chatted for a minute or two and he said that he was just about to go get some breakfast and he invited me along, his treat.

Well, I can't say no to a free breakfast so I piled into his pickup and we went and had some breakfast.

Once we got back to his place we unloaded the VAC truck and I struck out for the yard. I called in and let them know that I was on the way and that my truck needed some repairs.

As it it the day after Thanksgiving the shop was only going to be open until Noon, but as I let them know I was on my way and would get there some time between 1:00 and 2:00 they waited for me. I got my repairs done and pulled back out of the shop around 4:30.

I checked into the local motel and walked the 1/2 mile into town to have some dinner and a couple of cold beers. I don't drive when I know I will be drinking.

It was kind of cold when I walked into town, but by the time I was ready to leave it was really damn cold. Luckily one of the bartenders was getting off work about the time I was ready to leave and she  gave me a ride back to the motel. Very nice lady. I really appreciated the ride. She dropped me off right in front of my room.

I don't have to be in Sioux City, IA until Monday so I will lay over here until Sunday morning, mostly goofing off but also getting some laundry done and picking up some more Irish Aromatic pipe tobacco as it is running low. That stuff goes great with morning coffee.

OK, I think I have managed to pound out a somewhat incoherent and wandering sort of post, so mission accomplished Time to don my hat and coat and go stand outside of the motel room, for which I have paid good money, to have smoke as the fascists in Wisconsin deem it illegal to smoke in a hotel room for which you have paid good money.

Smoke away Mason.  Everyone has a choice.  Glad you got to your shop and got checked in and repaired and fed and dropped off.  it was a success.  Sleep well.  Stay warm.  Spring is a LONG, LONG way off.

Thanks. I think it's going to be a long Winter.

We had our first good freeze last night, so the cold has not yet arrived.  3 cheers for the bartenders and their hospitality!

Good to hear they did not hold you over for the winter out west!

Some bartenders are a god-send.  I still think it is going to be a long Winter.
