A bunch of useless crap

I had a very close call today. As I was driving my rig up I-294 in Illinois just relaxing and enjoying the day I suddenly heard tires screeching on pavement. I looked to my left and saw a car totally out of control and doing 360 degree spins on the highway and heading right for me.

I hit the brakes and watched the car spin in front of my truck. I thought it would keep going right out of my path as I was braking but at the last second it came right back in front of me. There was no way in hell I could stop my rig in time to keep from hitting the car.

As adrenaline was dumped into my system and my heart was running at rapid speed I gave a glance in my right mirror, saw nothing was on that side that I could see, and dodged my truck in that direction. I missed the out of control car by inches.

A few minutes later a car with a sun roof came past me with the driver doing a thumbs up out of the sun roof. I guess he saw the whole thing and was congratulating me on not hitting the car broadside.

A few minutes after that the previously out of control car came by me and the driver waved to me as he went by. I can imagine how he must have felt as he saw himself out of control in front of a big rig.

I am just thankful that I didn't hit the car.

It took a good hour to burn off all the adrenaline that was dumped into my system and return to normal. I have had many close calls over the years but that one was closer than most. Honestly, it scared the shit out of me.

It would scare the shit out of me too!  I was in only a VW Bug (the old models - built very well!) when some one decided to do donuts in front of me on I64.  I missed them by the narrowest of margins too.  I doubt I would have had the same impact, but when you see that, you are not thinking about which vehicle is going to win, just that someone is going to lose.

Edit: I forgot to mention, this was during one of our famous ice storms.
