I am currently sitting in Nashville, IL. I had run an oversized load, an air crash rescue truck, out to the port in Baltimore to go onto a ship and wind up in Pakistan and after sitting for a day I dead-headed over to a landfill in Gallia County Ohio and picked up another over-sized load, a dump truck, and hauled it to a landfill in IL.
When I left the landfill in OH it was a very tight turn on a small country road, but I swung it as wide as I could and managed to make it out while watching for any traffic that might come flying around the blind curve just ahead. About an hour after I left there I got a call from "R" asking me if I had damaged any trailer tires.
"Huh?" says I. He said he got a call that when I left the landfill I had run over their street sign. News to me. I pulled off on the shoulder of the road and inspected the trailer on that side. I saw no sign at all that I had hit anything. The load stuck out several inches and there was no sign that it had hit anything, nothing on my trailer, or my trailer tires. Also, the flag stick on that corner was intact and untouched. As it's just a wooden stick with an orange flag on it I would think it would have been broken off in such a case.
I emailed photos to "R" to show the condition of trailer and load. I also told him that while I felt pretty sure I didn't do it, I can't swear to it 100% as it was a very tight turn onto a very narrow road. I think the odds are pretty good that we are going to have to pay for the sign whether I actually hit it or not. Such is trucking.
It's been raining everywhere I've been lately and it's getting pretty tiresome. I am longing for some sunshine.
Not much else going on right now. Just trucking and trying like hell to make a buck.
