A bunch of useless crap

I may have mentioned in some previous article that I am rather fond of wearing a tie on most days. While I do often wear what one may think of as a traditional tie, I am also fond of the good old, much maligned, bow tie.

While killing some time at the local mall yesterday I wandered into Bloomingdale's to have a look around. I noticed they had many menswear items marked down 40%, making the prices almost reasonable.

While looking at some of the sale items I came across a rack of bow ties, mostly silk. While their normal $45 price tags would have caused me to smirk and wander off, the fact they were 40% off made them pretty reasonable for a good bow tie so I picked up a couple of them.

Yeah, I suppose in some ways bow ties are a little on the geeky side, but I like them. Besides, I am sure to stand out at the truck stops.

I have noticed that in the past year or so the bow tie has been making something of a come-back. I like that. I may have to make a point of collecting a few more as, with yesterday's purchase, I only have four at the moment.

Anyone else a fan of the bow tie?

I have always liked a bow tie.  My father looked dashing in one as I am sure you do.  I guess you chose the ties rather than to eat.  Now that is sticking to a diet!    An waiting for the pic sans the beard too!  I wouldn't know you now if we passed on the street.

Take care and I am glad you liked the e-mail pics.

Thanks. No, I wasn't forced to forgo sustinance. Friday was payday and also the office transferred some extra cash to me for my expenses during the breakdown layover.

The pic will have to wait until I get back into my truck as I left my digital camera there. Come to think of it, I think I have an older beardless av on my computer somewhere, I'll dig that out for now.

I have mixed feelings on them. I think they look great with formal wear (tuxedo), but not so much in place of a tie. Of course, the person wearing it does make a difference. Some are more suited to it than others, I just happen to fall into the later group.

Yeah, bow ties are like that. Some like them, some don't.

My Early Biblical Interpretation professor always goes to class in a bowtie but other than that everyone else I know who dresses formally always wears the usual tie.

My brother is a classical pianist - he always wears one when he plays a concert or takes part in any official capacity as a pianist. Black tux and a bowtie (we call them Fliege - Fly.. don't ask me why though, it makes no sense) - it looks great. I am rather fond of formal wear on guys, no matter how scruffy they look otherwise, a suit or just a shirt with a tie in whatever is always a major improvement and makes them look good (in most cases anyway). I don't know why that works that way - but it sure does. One great example, albeit fictional, is Bond, James Bond. Sean Connery in a black tux lol yummie

I always associate a bow tie to College Professors.  Much like you come across as Mason.
