A bunch of useless crap

This afternoon I walked to the sports bar down the street from my motel to watch the Louisiana/Alabama football game. I went in, sat down, ordered a beer, and packed a pipe expecting to enjoy the game.

There was a woman there who was, well, LOUD. She screamed at the top of her lungs the entire game. I wanted to strangle her. While I can understand some fan enthusiasm, she was way, way over board and was a distraction. All I can think is that she was ignored as a child and had a need to be the center of attention.

I ignored her completely, but she really was a distraction for everyone trying to watch the game. The two sailors next to me felt the same way, and also wanted to strangle her on the spot just to shut her up.

There was something very wring with that woman. I hope to never run across her again. She tried to talk to me a couple of tmes but I made no more than passing, disinterested replies to her and I think she got the idea that I simply didn't want to talk to her. I hate to be rude, but I simply didn't like this loud mouthed woman in the least.

A fight nearly broke out during the game. A couople of guys started out raggng on each other, each rooting for opposing teams, but at some point it stopped being good natured ribbing and they got serious and faced off. Morons. The bouncer jumped in as soon as he saw they had gone from fun to fight and one guy wound up being tossed out. He was being an ass.

I just smoked my pipes and kept to myself. I did chat a bit with the to sailors as they are from Florida. As soon as they learned I was former Navy they warmed up to me and we talked about the sea and living aboard ship. Nice guys.

One of the sailors had an interst in my pipes and tobacco, as did the bar's cook. I educated them as best I could and recommended some starter materials for them to check out and give it a try. Pipes aren't for everyone, but for those for whom it appeals there is no going back. The pipes and tobaccos are an addiction that grows rapidly.

I visited the mall near the motel today and went to the Tinder Box there. I picked up a 7 pipe leather case, a few ounces of tobacco, a pipe holster, and had a good time chatting with the owner about pipes and such.

I am now back in my room, relaxing and killing time. I had planned on staying here again tomorrow night but spent that money at Tinder Box today so I'll check out in the morning and drive up to the truck stop near my delivery point to spend tomorrow night in  my truck. I'm used to that so no big deal.

One ting I have observed (in myself no less) about rooting for your team.  When your team sucks, you still root for them, but you dont get in any fights!  No bragging when the high point of the season is "losing well".
