A bunch of useless crap

After spending all weekend holed up in a cheap motel Dispatch has found me a load out of TX. Tomorrow morning I am to pick up down in Victoria, TX at a National Guard post. I'll be picking up a couple of Humvees and a trailer.

Victoria is a couple of hours from here, and as I don't have the cash for another night in the motel anyway, I'll be checking out shortly and moving down closer to there so I can pick up first thing in the morning.

Yesterday I started downloading the Windows 7 RC DVD image file so I can play around with it and check it out, but this connection at the motel is so slow that 14 hours later it's only about 80% downloaded. Hopefully I'll be able to find a faster connection in the next few days to finish the download. As a long time Linux user I'm not a huge Windows fan, but I do like to keep up with the new stuff.

I only have one single program that I actually need Windows to run, for work, and it runs just fine in my old copy of Xp, but it's fun to test out the newer stuff from time to time. Heck, if 7 turns out to any good I may even eventually buy a copy. Who knows? After testing out Vista I knew I would never be buying a copy of that, but 7 may or may not turn out to be worth it. Time will tell.

Although I do like the fact that Linux is totally free and open source, I do not have any ideological objections to paying for software if the price is reasonable and it's actually good software. That's really the key for me, it has to actually provide value for the cost or I simply won't buy it, but I'm sure that's true for a good many people who actually know they have choices when it comes to operating systems and applications.

I'll be checking out in less than 90 minutes now and heading to a truck stop near Victoria where I can hang out until tomorrow. Not much else to do until then. Too bad this download couldn't finish before check out time, at least that would give me something to play around with to pass the time.

I'm just happy to have a load out of here. Three days is more than enough down time when money is short.
