A bunch of useless crap

Around lunch time I decided to drive over to the local Galleria mall, mostly just to walk around a bit and check things out. I wandered around a bit and came across a vision center having a pretty good sale. They were offering a complete pair of glasses, plus eye exam, for $99.

I've been needing new glasses for some time now so I decided to use some of my down time to take care of that. I explained to the doc that I'd had problems with my last two pairs of bifocals and that the distance part of them just wasn't right and so I just couldn't wear them except for reading.

He did a pretty throrough exam and told me the reason I'd had problems was because I didn't actually need bifocals at all. I only need reading glasses. My vision is 20/15. I'd always known I could see extremely well at a distance but the other docs had always told me one eye was slightly weaker and thus the need for bifocals. This doc said they were wrong and that was why I couldn't wear the stupid things.

About an hour later I had a nice shiny new pair of single vision stainless steel reading glasses. I'm quite happy with them, espeically since I hated trying to wear glasses all day long anyway. Now I can just use them for what I really need; reading.

I spent some more time wandering around the mall and it's various stores, more just observing the people than anything. There must be a pretty large Hassidic Jewish community here because I saw a number of them in the mall. It's interesting seeing the various peoples in an area. Even though we all live in the same country the people do vary from region to region. Attitudes, manner of dress, speech, and so on. Some areas have large numbers of certain ethnicities while other areas have different ones. Just observing the people in a place can be quite fascinating.

I grabbed a bit to eat, wandered and watched a bit more, and then returned to the hotel.

I'll take it easy for the rest of this day so I am ready to roll tomorrow morning. I have a lot of ground to cover to get to Ft McCoy and want to get there as soon as I can do so. Hauling an oversized load means limited driving hours, but as it's Summer the daylight is long and the driving conditions are good. If everything goes well I should be there on Tuesday afternoon. Worst case, Wednesday morning.

I am a people watcher too.  I am not much of a mall girl but every now and then its fun to check it out.  I've been thinking about getting my eyes checked.  I notice that I can't see far away as well anymore.  Up close, I seem to be okay.  Good riddance to the bifocals you didn't need anyway.

Thanks. It's good to keep up with the eye exams as some things can sneak up on you without notice.

MamaCharlie just finished getting both eyes done for cataracts.  So at age 60 she now has teenager vision.  I am so jealous!

I used to love malls and watching people.  The malls themselves are like "76" truckstops, they all look alike.  But the people are different from place to place and a hoot to check out.  But lately I have given up the malls, I get tired of jostling around with dead-eyed teens and rude post-teens.  It is harder and harder to stop myself from grabbing someone up and poppin' em one, know what I mean?

I know exactly what you mean. I have a really tough time with rude people and they do seem to be the rudest.
