A bunch of useless crap

After delivering the fire truck in Lubbock and then spending a couple of nights in a motel up in Amarillo, they found me a decent paying load, some power transformers, from Lubbock to Wills Point, TX. I loaded them up on Wednesday and delivered them on Thursday morning. Then then went down to the truck stop in Terrell to await my next load.

Nothing on Thursday so I spent the night there at the truck stop. I spoke with the dispatcher Friday morning and , as I expected, he said it wasn't too likely he'd find me anything out as this was a holiday weekend and a lot of places were closed down. As it was well over 100 degrees outside I spent the day hanging out inside the truck stop, mostly in the tv lounge watching whatever was on, knitting, and shooting the shit with my fellow drivers who were also stranded due to the holiday weekend.

Around 3:00 pm I called in and verified that they had given it up and would resume the search for a load on Monday. I requested some money to pay for a motel, got it, and checked in. I managed to find a decent place for a trucker rate of $55/night (regular rate is $75). Not too bad considering it's a holiday weekend and all. The place is clean, decent sized rooms, has a pool, and there are stores and restaurants close by. It'll do.

The most important thing about my room is that the air conditioning works. It's hotter than blazes here.

I think I'll drop my trailer in a little while and bobtail to the loacl Wal Mart to pick up some groceries for the weekend. I have a micro fridge and a microwave, so sense blowing too much money in diners and such.

The guy in the room next to mine is a fellow trucker who's truck broke down. The transmission went out. It's going to cost him $7500 to repair and he doesn't have it. I feel sorry for the guy. He's a pretty new driver and hasn't put away any emergency cash for just such situations. We talked for a while last night and I made a few suggestions, from my own experiences, that he might follow up on next week. There's always a way.

As for me, I'm just going to hang out, rest, and try to get over this damn cold. It's better than it was a couple of days ago, but I still don't quite feel at the top of my game. A few days rest should be what the doctor ordered to get me back in the pink.
