I finally delivered the airfield snow blower truck in Salt Lake City this morning.
I've managed to finish the body of the sweater now and have started one of the sleeves. I hope to have the thing finished before too much longer. I had started it right before my mother passed away in December and after that I just didn't bother to work on it for a while, so now it seems like I've been working on it forever.
This morning I got caught in a smaller snowstorm as I crossed from WY into UT, but it wasn't too bad and only cost me about an hour extra driving time. I'm glad to say it didn't cause any wrecks that I could see.
After unloading the snow blower truck I popped down to the Reserves base in Riverton and picked up a 7 ton truck heading for a base in Charleston, SC. At least it should be nice and warm there. I am very tired of freezing my buns off and some warm weather will be a welcome change. I just hope that base isn't as much of a mud hole as the one where I picked up. It'll take me days to get all of the mud off my floorboard now.
I'm spending the night here in SLC as I know that by the time I reached a truck stop in WY this evening there wouldn't be a parking spot to be had. I don't have to be in SC until Monday and, as it's only a little over 2200 miles away there's no big rush. I should be able to get that done and take a day off when I get there. That is of course unless dispatch finds something else to go on the trailer and diverts me somewhere along the way.
This truck stop, the Sapp Bros, is about the best place to spend the night in SLC. No lot lizards to bother you, good food, and wifi access. TV reception is also pretty good here. The only thing it lacks to make it perfect is a nearby saloon, but ya can't have everything ya know.
I have a good parking spot where someone would have to really work hard at it to hit my truck, so I'll hang out here tonight and just chill out, do some knitting, and probably watch the idiot box for a while. If nothing else will numb the brain enough to make ya want to go to sleep it's watching the commercialized drivel on broadcast television.
For now I think I'll just wander inside and see how many people I can upset in this no-smoking place with my electronic cigarette.
