No wifi service here so writing this on Sunday to be posted at a later time.
I slept in some this morning, finally getting up around 8:00 Central time. Of course that was 6:00 local time and the sun wasn't up yet. The first thing I noticed when I got up was that my back wasn't as stiff and sore as it was yesterday morning. I was able to get dressed without too much pain or difficulty.
Sadly, that didn't last too long and as soon as I got out of the truck to walk inside for a cup of coffee the pain returned and walking was difficult and standing up straight was impossible. Oh well, at least it started out better than yesterday so I take that as a good sign.
I took care of the morning necessities, got my cup of coffee, and prepared to hit the road. It was really foggy out, and not just fog but ice fog. That promised to make the ride toward Seattle interesting.
I got rolling through the ice fog, defroster and wipers on full blast to try and keep the ice off the windshield as much as possible. I wanted to get to the truck stop in North Bend, the closest one to where I need to be Monday morning, before the parking lot filled up. Sundays are when the trucks rolling in to deliver or pick up in Seattle roll into North Bend to be ready for Monday morning, much as I myself am doing.
I got lucky and rolled in around 10:00 am local time and was able to find a parking spot pretty easily. Within two hours the lot was completely full and trucks were rolling through hunting that one spot they could park, with many drivers on the CB asking if anyone was leaving soon so they could have their spot.
Happens here every Sunday.
I have all three of my delivery locations plotted out on my GPS and now have nothing to do but rest, relax, and wait. I wouldn't mind walking down to the tavern for a few but between my sore back and virtually empty wallet I'll have to content myself with hanging out here and maybe watching some tv. I was truly happy to get my house payments caught up yesterday, but it pretty well cleaned me out doing it so what scant little cash I have left must go towards cheap eats and nothing else.
I'm going to get my stuff together and go in for a nice hot shower shortly. I think that may be what helped ease my back some last night and so am looking forward to it as it could provide some additional relief today. Come to think of it , I think I'll wait until later on, closer to bedtime, as that seemed to work out well last night. Could allow me to sleep better again tonight.
Although the truck stop itself is something of a shit hole, the view is, as always, stupendous. The mountains tower in every direction and there are tall pines everywhere. Truly a sight to see.
I think I'll fire up the tv and see if I can actually receive any stations here.
Monday:
I delivered two out of three of my stops in the Seattle area today. The last one, in downtown Seattle, was a problem. Seattle has some pretty difficult laws regarding trucks coning into the city and they require and escort to take you into and back out of the city if you're over a certain length. As my rig is about 75 feet long I fall well within that law.
The contractor on the job site was having some problems and I gathered that the site had some very limited space, so he just couldn't get me in there today. After parking under a bridge and being chased off by the cops I headed back out of the city and to the truck stop some 35 miles away. I called the guy and told him to call me when he got his shit together.
He finally called me late afternoon (my time) and we set things up for very early tomorrow morning. I am to meet him at a fuel stop around 5:30 tomorrow morning and he will escort me in to the site. Seems like a helluva lot of trouble to just deliver a damn generator, but it's Seattle and that's one town that is as regulatory as California. No wonder these places are going broke.
After talking with him and setting things up for tomorrow morning I drove down to the local tavern and parked my rig. Normally I would have just walked down from the truck stop but as my back is still not in good shape I just didn't feel up to the 1.25 mile walk down here. I had a couple of beers and spent some time working on the current sweater project.
It was kinda funny. Normally people in bars ask me about the knitting, but in this place people took that in stride and wanted to know about my electronic cigarette that I was "smoking". I had to explain the damn thing at least 20 times while I was there. Geez people, surf the net once in a while.
Am back in the truck now, using the tavern's wifi, and getting ready to get some sleep. One thing that helped my back today, I dug out my back brace with the lumbar pad built in. I put it on before I did any driving and kept it on while working. It did help a great deal.
I think I need to make a point of wearing the damn uncomfortable thing whenever I am handling tarps as that may prevent future episodes such I am trying to get over now. I knew there was a reason I bought the thing LOL.
I'll be wearing it tomorrow as the final stop is tarped. No more handling tarps without some sort of back protection for me, no matter how silly I feel wearing the stupid thing. The back brace is paid for, Aleve is expensive, and the pain is just annoying as hell.
Now time for some sleep.
