A bunch of useless crap

I delivered a fuel tanker truck to the Army Air Field in Savannah, GA today. Things being what they are they weren't able to find me a decent reload out of here today.

I made my way to the nearby truckstop and ordered myself a nice hot bowl of chicken soup while waiting to hear from dispatch about a possible load. The soup was good and did help open up my stuffed head a bit.

As the day ended without my getting a load I am stuck here for the weekend. As much as I need the money perhaps it's for the best as it will allow me the chance for some extended rest which may be just what I need to shake this ugly cold.

I've checked into a cheap hotel, on the boss's dime, and am settled in for the weekend. I'm getting ready to walk into the hotel lounge for a couple of quick shots of Jack or perhaps brandy to open up my chest a bit.

Tomorrow I'll drop my trailer and bobtail to the nearest shopping area to locate some actual cold medicine. I haven't been taking any up to now as anything that actually helps is also has a negative influence on the safe operation of my rig. Since I'm holed up in a hotel I figure a good dose of Nyquil may be helpful.

With any luck I'll get a good paying load out of here on Monday and get back to business and possibly without the misery of a cold.

One thing I definately do not miss about the road is the truckstop lifestyle and all that it entails.  I hope you get a good load soon and are well and rested when you get it.  I haven't said much about it to you but I do appreciate your posts and get a big kick out of your point of view.  Thanks for the vicarious road trips.

And you know the rule...shiny side up, dirty side down...be safe.

Thanks, I didn't know, or possibly just forgot, that you lived on the road. Good to know.

The rest is helping some even though I still feel like shit. I slept for better than 12 hours last night which is rare for me.

Truckstops suck. They all do. Some suck less than others, but they all suck.

As this room has a mini fridge and a microwave I bought some groceries today to help save money. Sandwiches and soup are much cheaper than eating out.

Well hope all gets sorted out, that you get better and get a good paying load.

Best of luck man.

My experiences on the road were alot different than what you guys do and put up with.  The majority of my OTR was done in the military and we lived a wholely different lifestyle.  But I was able to observe our civilian counterparts up close and personal and chose to haul dirt close to home when my Armyin' was done.  The majority of our operations were in the west, the Texarkana depot was as far east as I ever got.  There were some truckstops that were the pits and as you said, some a little less sucky.  Boomtown in Reno was my favorite, had the greatest buffet there, but we were never allowed to stay there so we would park and get a room at Sierra Sid's in Sparks then figure out how to get all the way across town to Boomtown.

Anyhow, get better.  See ya.

Ah yes, the Red River depot. I am there several times a year.

Those cold medicines have almost as much alcohol as a straight shot!  And sure dont taste as good.

Best of luck beating the beast.
