I spent last night in Nashville. I walked the bridge that crosses the river and leads into downtown. There's a nice sports bar there called the Riverfront Tavern. It's a friendly place, has good food, and I always have a good time there. Last night was no exception.
While I was sitting at the bar knitting and chatting with a couple of fellow patrons and the bartender (who naturally remembered me due to my knitting) an attractive young lady came in and sat down to my right. After a few minutes she asked "Are you knitting?"
I assured her that I was indeed knitting and showed her the cabled scarf I am working on. She said "I just love a man who knits!" and moved to the stool right next to me. We talked for a good while. She's an artistic type who knits, crochets, draws, and paints. She was waiting to meet her husband there, and he turned out to be a very nice fellow.
Once her husband and his friend showed up the four of us moved to a table. At first I really didn't want to as I don't know these folks and didn't want to intrude but they insisted that they wanted me to sit with them so I conceded and sat with them.
I learned a great deal about this young lady during the course of the evening, including the fact that she had been raised a Buddhist and still practices same. She was a very interesting person to talk with and I was more than a little amazed that she and I had so much in common. She is truly a kindred spirit and felt the same way about me. Instant friendship. I have never met anyone who I took a liking to so quickly.
She said that she would get online and contact me through the main knitting website where I belong and she has visited to watch the instructional videos but never actually signed up. I was assured that whenever I am in Nashville I have a place to stay and a hot meal.
They had offered to give me a ride back to the truckstop but as I had been there since the middle of the afternoon and despite having had a good meal there I was starting to feel the effects of the beer and decided to leave early. He shook my hand and she gave me a big hug, and I walked back across the river and to my truck. Nice folks.
I had a good sleep, even slept in for a change. I am now preparing to hit the road again and move on down towards Birmingham and my first delivery stop on my way home. The truckstop is across from the football stadium, and the Titans are playing the Packers today so you can well imagine the circus going on here right now. Tailgaters are everywhere and traffic is a mess. It'll take me a while to fight my way out of here.
Now that I think about it I may just stay right here until the game starts, that way the traffic will have died down and I can get out of here more easily.
