I'm sitting around the truckstop near the yard. Later today I'll be loading up for FL. I plan on spending a week or so at the house and then won't return back home again until Christmas. It's always dead from Christmas until the new year so it's a good time to just mstay home and loaf. I'll make what money I can until then.
I can't believe how late I slept this morning. I must have been more tired than I thought. Yesterday wasn't a very busy day for me at all. I went down to the port in Milwaukee and registered for my stupid TWIC card. I found out that I had been misinformed about having to do it in my home state. I also found out the company decided to pay for them as a number of drivers had said they refused to get one due to the expense.
So I went down there, answered all the stupid questions, got electronically fingerprinted, signed the form, had my picture taken, and handed them the money order from the company. In my job I regularly go to milirary and other government installations, many of them highly secure, classified, and otherwise restricted access facilities. It's what I do. The idea that I need this special card to get into a frackin' port is absurd.
But that's the government for you. Infinitely stupid.
After doing that I basically just sat around the rest of the day waiting for the shop to service my truck. It was due for routine service and there were a couple of minor repairs that it needed as well. They finally finished it up around 7:00 last night. Over time for them, a lot of sitting around knitting for me.
I then bobtailed down here to the truckstop for a late dinner, after which I popped in a DVD and just chilled out for a couple of hours. I actually went to sleep fairly early so I was shocked when I woke this morning and the clock read 7:45. Holy shit! I never sleep that late.
I grabbed a cup of coffee and hot-footed it back to the yard. Last we talked, dispatch was going to have me run a fire truck down to Indianapolis today, then load me out to FL when I got back. I scrambled into the office to find that due to the delays in getting my truck serviced they had another driver take the fire truck. Damn! I really wanted the extra cash from that, but oh well.
So now I am back at the truckstop just goofing off. I had my usualy sausage and eggs breakfast and some pretty decent coffee, chatted with the waitresses who always ask about my knitting (and when I am going to knit them some hats), and retuened to my truck to goof off for a while.
Maybe I'll take a nap.
