I'm hanging out in a truckstop hotel waiting out the PA oversize curfew (can't run on the weekend). The place happens to have a bar.
Several of us drivers were standing outside talking. One driver happens to be black and he got to talking about how some people toss around the word nigger, and how he didn't consider himself to be someone to whom that word applies.
The conversation turned to the whole moronic race thing for a bit, and I voiced my own opinion on how stupid racism is, as well as how some people are far too touchy on that subject, on which my new found friend agreed.
A little later while we were all sitting back in the bar and I got the idea to screw with the new bartender. Hell, someone has to break her in on dealing with truck drivers. I did walk over and give my new friend a heads up on what I was about to do, although I didn't give him any real specifics. I just told him I was going to screw with the new bartender and he should pay attention.
When she was at the far end of the bar, about as far away from me as she could get, I called her name in a loud voice and told her "I want to buy that nigger over there a beer!"
I swear, the look on her face was hilarious! She was totally dumfounded for a moment. Those of us who were in on the earlier converasation were laughing our asses off, a number of other customers weren't sure what the hell to think, and she was stunned.
She finally figured out that I was screwing with her and she threatened me, telliing me that she WOULD get even. I laughed even harder over that.
The funniest part of all was after the laughter died down the black driver asked her "Well, aren't you going to give this nigger a beer?"
She gave him his beer and the rest of us were rolling with laughter.
We all went back outside to have another smoke (yeah I already fell off that wagon) and were laughing our asses off over it.
Personally I think that's the best way to deal with not only the whole racism idea, but the PC mentality in general. Make fun of it, have fun with it, and laugh at those who actually take that shit seriously.
