A bunch of useless crap

Just kicking back in a hotel in Paducah. There are probably worse places to be, but I'm not sure where just now.

Once I got checked in I walked across the road thinking I'd have a bite to eat and maybe a couple of cold ones at the O'Charley's. A nice big sign on the door announced that they were non-smoking. I shrugged my shoulders and walked a little further down to a joint with a sign that advertised they were a restaurant and bar.

I walked into that place and was met by the manager as well as a no smoking sign. I asked the guy what the hell kind of bar is non-smoking. Seems it's a Paducah city ordnance. The guy tried telling me about their food specials and such but I cut him off saying that the city of Paducah just cost him some business. He said he understood, that they had lost a lot of business to the places outside city limits.

He did tell me they have a patio area for smokers to which I commented that I wasn't going to sit out in the sun like a second class citizen while spending good money to get skin cancer. Besides, it's damn hot out there. Ok, I can buy banning in food places, but not bars for Christ's sake! That's just fucking stupid. It's the whiny ass ex-smokers behind all this shit and they can all go fuck themselves for all I care. Fascist assholes every one.

Hypocrites. Kentucky is a tobacco state and a helluva lot of taxpayer money goes to the tobacco farmers in the form of subsidies. But ya can't use their product. Fuck them. I notice they don't have any problem collecting the taxes off of tobacco. If they're really that against it they shouldn't allow it to be sold here either. But of course they don't want to lose the revenues, to hell with the private business owners losing their revenues. I hope the damn city goes bankrupt from loss of revenue.

I took a cab to a small grocery outside of city limits and bought myself some food and beer. The Paducah fascist pansies aren't getting any tax money out of me. It sucks I didn't know about this ahead of time or I wouldn't have even rented a room in this shit hole town, I would have gone to a hotel outside city limits.

I did learn that there is a pub just outside of the city that allows smoking, but another cab ride there and then possibly another back (if I couldn't bum a ride) seems like too much expense to me to just to sit and socialize for a bit. I don't care about the drinks one way or the other, I just enjoy talking with people but that doesn't seem worth another 20 to 40 bucks in cab fare (plus food and drinks) to me.

I'll just hang out in the hotel until Monday morning. Ya live and learn, I'll never stop or spend money in Paducah, KY again. The room is comfortable enough, I have internet service, and cable television (for what that's worth). Maybe later tonight I'll see if I can find the city hall building and take a bit shit in front of the door.

Or maybe not.

Don't come to Fargo then.  It's been voted on TWICE and still no smoking in bars.  THe people have made their will known.

That's ok. Eventually North America will be a totally fascist nanny state and those of us who prefer to be treated like adults can move to some place where PC asshats are shot on sight. I'm thinking those of us who don't like being treated like children should pool our money, buy our own country, and our flag can be a large middle finger to the rest of the world.

In the corporate world, people are being fired for smoking and being fat.  It's like sit down and shut up.  Quiet down, here's a keyboard start typing and quit your belly aching.  That's STATE money not your money.

Yeah and that's what bugs the shit out of me. We're quickly becoming a nanny state and that is not the idea upon which this country was founded and certainly wouldn't have set well with the strong, brave, and highly independent men and women who built this country.

We've become a nation of whiny assed, mealy mouthed pussies.

I wouldn't say we are only whiny, I'd say we are overtly narcissistic.  What about me? What will this do for me?  It's me me me.  I'm on facebook with a 1000 friends, I'm popular, I'm the best.  Look at my ass I need plastic surgery, look at my car it's not big enough, look at my body it's not good enough.  MEMEMEM whew.  I'm taking a break.

Yeah I know. Pathetic. Selfishness is exactly what breeds this sort of bullshit.

NC and VA are the 2 biggest tobacco states. In parts of VA, you can find people smoking all over the place! Even pumping gas! But in others, they are trying the same stupidity. Norfolk tried it (but was quickly shouted down). So Paducah does not suprise me. Liberals do tend to gravitate to cities it seems like.

I think it will either wind up everywhere but at some point the nanny state will cross some line and people will finally wise up and reject the idea.

But then, many are so lazy that perhaps not. Orwell was right, just off by a few decades.

My family lives in Ky Mason...there is legislation right now in the state to get smoking banned in all public places in the state, much like ohio.  I doubt it will pass....like you said, tabacco is a staple crop in Ky.  I can't see all those people who grow, dry and roll their own wanting to ban it.

But.  Right now you can still smoke in most places in Northern Ky, so if you're up this way you should be ok.

Yeah, I know, but that really isn't the point. It really isn't about me personally but rather the combination of sheer hypocrisy and the whole nanny state mentality that looks to treat adults like children. Drives me nuts.

Then you should get a kick out of this...

While I was in Mississippi, town of about 1500 people, a new city ordinance passed. I read about it in the paper.

Anyone wearing pants down around their hips to show their boxers or any underwear (girls with g-strings above the waist of their pants) can be fined. Can you believe that? It's under their indecent exposure rule, and lists other things like bra straps and stuff like that. hahahahaha

First fine is $50 then goes up $25 until the 4th and then it requires a fine and community service.

So basically that little town has a dress code.

Who woulda thunk it?

This is another prime example of what drives me nuts. It's completely stupid. I think that look is absurd and silly, but it's hardly worth passing a law.

Here nanny nanny nanny, please help us, we can't think for ourselves!

They don't believe in live and let live. Their motto is "live like us or we'll fine ya!" hahahah

I wonder though, isn't that violating some sort of constitutional right? Maybe to happiness? If showing your boxers makes ya happy? Heck the girls wear a lot less when they swim....but because it involves a swimming pool its suddenly decent?

I don't get it.

But then I don't get half the stuff they have on the books in that town.

I stopped trying.
