I'm back in the hotel. The company that was supposed to over night the part needed for my truck...didn't. In fact, when the service writer called them, they hadn't bothered to ship it at all. WTF? Seems they had some kind of communication problem and someone failed to follow through on the promised shipment.
I was pretty much freaking out on the service writer. "I have an over sized load that needs to be in GA Monday! Here it is Friday afternoon already and the truck isn't any closer to being ready to go than it was last night!"
The service writer, Norm, just kind of looked at me for a second. "Man, it's Thursday."
Me. "Huh? Are you sure about that?"
Him, with a laugh, "Yeah, I'm sure. Oh, and by the way, dispatch told me this morning the load doesn't need to be there until Tuesday morning."
Me, "What? Last I was told it was Monday morning. That's what they said huh? And today is really Thursday?"
Him, laughing his ass off, "Yep. Guess they just hadn't told ya yet. Go back to the hotel, we'll have it ready to go tomorrow."
Me, "Ummm, yeah, ok man. Sorry for freaking out on ya. I owe ya a beer."
Him, "Get the fuck out of my shop!"
Me, "Yeah, yeah, fuck you, I'm going."
Him, he just laughs and tosses me the keys to the company van. "Drink one for me."
I don't see how some companies can stay in business when they can't keep their promises. If this really had been Friday and the scheduled delivery really was for Monday we'd basically be screwed because these people failed to follow through on their promise. The service writer did tell them that he would never buy another part from them again. I think he meant it too.
So i'm back to chilling out at the hotel. I'll probably walk over to Applebee's in a little while and have a couple and some dinner. No need to worry about work related crap again until tomorrow.
