A bunch of useless crap
what a day!

Yesterday my escort and I arrived at the Port of Miami with the really long oversized load. We checked in at the security checkpoint. Everything seemed pretty normal, present identification to the police officer and he runs it through the system.

This process normally only takes between ten and twenty minutes. After an hour of waiting I knew something simply wasn't right. The cop said their system was down, but I didn't buy it. As soon as three police cruisers pulled up I knew something was definitely amiss.

After talking amongst themselves for a moment one of the cops approached my escort driver, told him there was a warrant out for his arrest, patted him down, and cuffed him. WTF?

I spoke with the cops, who already had the guy in the back of a cruiser, and asked them if they were going to allow the guy to call his company to let them know what was going on and set things up for them to recover their pilot car. It took a couple of minutes of talking to convince them to let me get his phone from his pilot car and get them to uncuff the guy long enough to make the call. Once I convinced them that his company and their pilot car weren't my problem and I wasn't going to handle it they relented and let him make the call.

I did get with the head of port security and drive the pilot car to an impound area in the port and then rode back to my truck with him. I convinced him to act as my escort through the port to the delivery location. He was a pretty decent guy and set things up with everyone involved to get me unloaded as quickly as possible after my losing two hours at the checkpoint due to my fugitive escort driver.

I felt sorry for the escort driver. I have no idea what he was wanted for and didn't ask as I didn't feel it was any of my business. I do know the guy is an ex-convict and was trying to make an honest living for himself.

By the time I finally got out of the port it was, naturally, rush hour in Miami. It took over an hour to go 5 miles on I-95. I really hate Miami traffic, they all drive like complete morons. As it would have been pretty late by the time I got home I just stopped at the first truckstop, parked, and went to the bar for a couple of much deserved beers. I'd had enough for one day.

While quietly enjoying my beer the guy sitting next to me at the bar struck up a conversation with me. He seemed ok to me so I started relating the day's events to him. When I told him how my escort driver got busted he interrupted me and asked me what color he was.

Huh? WTF?  I looked at him and told "Not that it makes any damn difference, but he's white". He tried to insist that it did make a difference but I cut him off sharply and told him it didn't make a fucking bit of difference and I didn't want to hear that shit.

He asked me what happened next so I started telling him about talking the cops into letting the guy make a phone call and he again interrupted me to ask about the race/nationality of the cops involved. WTF yet again. The guy was obviously a serious bigot and at that point I was no longer interested in talking to him. I told him one cop was white, one was black, one was Cuban, and one was a woman, but they were all wearing uniforms that were the same color which is the only thing that actually matters. I never did finish the story as I was pretty disgusted with this racist asshat.

Wild!

Certainly not something that should be part of a normal work day

Love your answer about the cops though.  Did you remember to tell him one was disabled, one was a homer-sexual, another was a priest, and.....

Yeah it was a weird day for sure.

It may not be your problem the guy was arrested but it does put a kink in the delivery!

Thanks for sharing the story.

If the day was routine, you would have been bored.

Sometimes, I like boring days.
