When I called to find out how my mother was doing after her throat cancer surgery I was infuriated. The person who answered the phone transferred me to the first of their three ICU wards. The nurse there told that my mother wasn't in her ward and that she was in ICU 2 and transferred me there.
The nurse there told me that Mom wasn't there and that she must be in ICU 1. No, I said they transferred me there because she wasn't in 1. She said she must be in 3 and transferred me there. At this point I was getting pretty pissed.
The nurse in ICU 3 said she wasn't there and got snippy with me and told me she couldn't give me any status information on a patient that wasn't in her ward. I got really pissed at her attitude and unloaded on her telling her that she had damn well better find someone who knew where my mother was and what her status was or the next call I would make would be to my lawyer and I would make damn sure to name her sorry ass in the lawsuit.
She put me on hold for a few moments and then came back on the line to tell me she was transferring me to the recovery room nurse. That very helpful woman filled me in on Mom's condition and told me that the hospital was so full that they didn't have a bed for Mom in any of the ICU wards. She said they would make her as comfortable as possible for the night and move her to a room in the morning.
The lack of organization in this place astounds me. How the fuck can they not know where a surgery patient is located in the hospital? It's probably a good thing I wasn't there in person as I would likely be in jail now for choking the shit out of one of these idiots.
