A bunch of useless crap

Over the weekend I had a lot of extra time on my hands. I had to make sure I cleared IL before noon on Saturday as they don't allow oversized loads to move between noon on Saturday and sunrise Monday. Beats me why. Once I cleared IL I had a lot of time to get to my delivery just North of Geen Bay Monday morning.

I stopped and killed Saturday afternoon and night at a Petro truck stop South of Milwaukee. I accidentally wandered over to the bar and grill across the street. They have cold beer and good food.

I sat down at the bar, gave a nod to some fellow truckers sitting around the bar, got a cold one, and started knitting. A pretty big trucker sitting directly across from me asked what I was doing. I told him and he said "Well ain't you a special person?"

I replied that yes, I am and gave him a dead in the eye look that let him know that fucking with me might not be a good idea. The guy sitting next to him said that he had seen me before but couldn't remember where. I remembered him from a biker bar in Wyoming a few weeks ago and reminded him of it. He told his buddy that I was exactly like them in that I really didn't give a shit what anybody thinks and had to be a tough son of a bitch to sit and knit in trucker and biker bars. I laughed at that.

Next thing I knew both of them had moved over to my side of the bar so we could talk without yelling across the bar. We shot the shit for a while before they decided it was time to leave. They'd already been there for a couple of hours before I showed up.

I spent Sunday at a truck stop in Green Bay. While sitting in the trucker's lounge knitting and watching a movie another driver said that he remembered seeing me in the BBQ Joint (a bar in Carlisle PA). I sort of recalled his face, but didn't really remember him. Until he started asking how my knitting was coming along none of the other drivers had commented on it although I caught several of them giving me funny looks. I didn't care, but once he asked about it several others made comments including having seen me in various truck stops here and there.

I could one could be remembered for worse things.

Mason, you are special...in the BEST of ways! Keep knitting and tear down those stereotypes!

Thanks. I always thought 'special' meant you ride the short bus.

Stereotypes are just an excuse for not having to bother getting to know people one at a time.

At least you're remembered and not anonymous.  Now if you ever need an alibi everyone will be able to remember you knitting at the truck stop.

Told you I heard about you on the TV.

I got a nice greeting the other day as well. Someone asked me if I was THE Dr. Guy from Henrico County Schools. That was over 10 years ago, so it was nice to know my name is still going around over there.

What's your fave part of the country to go drinking? Where's your fave bars? You always run into some interesting people.

Can't really say I have a favorite part of the country to go drinking. I manage to have a good time pretty much everywhere. There are good people all over.

My thoughts exactly. Its a pity you can't drive across water, mate, as I'm sure you'd go down a treat in Australia.

That's the one place I have always wanted to visit that I so far haven't. Thanks.
