I finally got my truck out of the shop and checked in at dispatch to see what they for me in the way of a load. After sitting around for two days I was ready to roll. What he said he wanted me to do struck as crazy on a couple of levels, and I even asked him if he'd been hitting the sauce a little early.
He said we have a van trailer sitting in Idaho and he wants me to bobtail from Wisconsin to there to pick it up. Ok, a couple of things here. Firstly, I didn't know we even had a van trailer as we do step decks and double drops. Seems we have one or two for customer's special needs situations. News to me.
Secondly, that's a hell of a long way to bobtail. Was this paying enough to make it worth it to bobtail that far? He said that it was indeed, and that had been built into the price when he billed it out to the customer. Well, ok then, good enough for me.
I am now in Montana and will head over into Idaho tomorrow. I'm only about 8 hours away from where I need to be Monday morning. Normally I'd say no sweat, but it looks like I may hit some snow between here and there. Slick roads and bobtailing don't mix well. Hopefully the roads will remain clear but I'll have to be prepared for the possibility of some slow going tomorrow.
My old Sirius satellite radio was a cheap one and was starting to show some signs of being beaten up a bit too much by the jolts and vibrations of the truck. I stopped and bought myself a new one Friday. It's a Streamer 3 and I like it much better than the cheap one.
One great feature it has is that if listening to some music that you really like you can just hit a button and you can store either the artist, the song, or both. It can store up to 30 entries. It then scans the channels and whenever the artists and/or songs you stored is about to play it pops up with a 10 second notice so you can just press a button and jump to that channel before the song starts. Very nice.
I have to say that having the satellite radio sure makes the time go by when driving for hours on end. Far better than constantly scanning for radio stations that only stay in range for a few minutes.
Well I guess it's aboout time to wander inside and grab a bite to eat. I'll probably accidentally walk into the bar across the street after that.
