A bunch of useless crap
Published on April 6, 2008 By MasonM In Blogging

After getting my truck out of the shop on Wednesday I had to haul ass down to IL to deliver a generator, then go and pick up a Bomag roller to fill out my load. I then had to run like hell to deliver the Bomag in Denver on Friday.

After Denver I had to go to Elko, NV to deliver some steel to a mining supply company. That was Saturday. Those guys did me a favor because they aren't normally open on the weekend, but agreed to come in Saturday and unload their steel so I could be on my way to Cali.

Now it's Sunday afternoon and I am sitting about 3 hours or so North of Bakersfield where I have to deliver tomorrow morning. There's only one truckstop in Bakersfield and I know it would be packed full by the time I got there this evening so I parked here.

I'll get up a bit early in the morning and head on down to Bakersfield. The time zone difference works in my favor here as I'll still get there not long after they open up in the morning. That's assuming of course that traffic will allow a decent rate of travel.

I really do hate this state. This is the worst anti-truck state in the country. The weigh stations, which are all over the place here, seem to go out of their way to waste our time and are hell bent on writing as many tickets as they possibly can. I guess the state needs the money.

The truck speed limit here is 55mph while the car limit os 65. Yeah, that's real safe. Having the trucks move that much slower than the cars is not only stupid but it's very unsafe. The cars zig zag around the slower moving trucks, often cutting right in front of us and slamming on the brakes to make their exit. But of course we're the ones who have to be overly regulated, hassled, and ticketed at every opportunity.

Cali drivers are some of the most unsafe in the country. I had several close calls today, all of them after I crossed into this shit hole state. Federal accident statistics prove that 75% of the car/truck accidents in this country are caused by the drivers of the cars, not the big rigs. And yet we're forced to drive at a slower speed which costs us time and money, and we're the ones who are treated like criminals on a daily basis. We're the damn victims of these idiot drivers not the other way around.

It's kind of like arresting the home owner because someone broke into his house and stole all his possessions.

They have a hard time getting me for anything. My log book is precise and legal, I set my cruise control at 54 mph, and thumb my nose at the assholes looking to get some revenue out of me. Fuck them. They want slow trucks I'll give them one. And to hell with how it screws up their traffic. Not my problem.

Yeah, ok, I've been running hard the past few days, I'm tired, my bum hip hurts, and I'm crabby. I think I'll turn in early tonight and get a little extra sleep.

Crap, JU is glitchy today...

Anyway...

I Hate California

As I understand, so does just about everyone except, of course, Californians.  We're planning on going to San Francisco and San Diego when we travel, but for as short a time as possible (San Francisco because Toni really wants to see the city and San Diego for the SD Zoo).  But then we're getting the hell out of the state.

Hope you get the hell out of there as soon as possible too, mate.

Yeah everyone should visit the state once if for no other reason than to have good reason to despise it.

Thanks.

Luckily isn't California supposed to break away from the mainland due to tectonic plate drifting or something like that?

Can't happen soon enough.

I dont (I dont care for the coast however), but then I am not a Truck Driver.

Hope the unload goes well and you can get out of there fast. Just remember - Heat without Humidity!

Kinda how I feel about the place. I'd love to buy some ocean front property in Reno

I suppose it would be ok for someone who isn't as hated as we truckers are in this state.

The unload went ok this morning. I am now sitting at the truckstop waiting for one of my fellow drivers who has a delivery at the same location. He was over weight when we loaded at the yard so I have his tarps and spare tire sitting on my trailer. He is supposed to come by and get them when he gets unloaded.

No idea when/where I'll be reloading but I suspect it'll be LA. I hate that place worst of all.

Many of us Californians love truck drivers and I know personnaly many business owners who'd rather the state relax the trucking law.  Most of California's counties are Red counties, unfortunatly we get controled by blue areaas around Frisco and LA.

Yeah I'm not referring to the citizens themselves (although a lot of them also hate trucks due to the lower truck speed limit) but rather the state itself which seems to view trucks as rolling ATMs from which to suck as much money as possible before they leave the state.

This is not different at all to politicians attitude towards citizens, illegals, gays, religous, global warming, creationists, left wingers, right wingers, aethists, outsorcing, unions, free trade, tariffs, industry, farming, ethanol, dogs, cats, eskimos, and a certain type of tree frog. We are all sources of revenue or votes and thats all they care about. If the nation prospers under their proposals then that is just a bonus when reelection comes around and thats democracy for you. Course it is better than having a crazy dictator who executes people when they dont look at him the right way so I guess for that we should all thank our shiftless politicians that they have not sunk that far down at least  .

Wow thats a dark view of our government must be the Monday cynicalism working on me.

I understand what you're saying, but trust me on this; you have no idea how we truckers are treated out here. Imagine being treated as a criminal, and being guilty until proven innocent, every single day just for doing your job. That's trucking, especially in Cali.

The only thing worth visiting in California as far as I'm concerned is theme parks. And then not even.

I'd never make it as a trucker. I need seven or more hours of sleep for ten hours of operation.

I'm ok at driving, but I wouldn't dare unless I'm in my prime.

Well actually the law requires a 10 hour break after 11 hours of driving and a total of 14 hours total work day. I get plenty of sleep.
