A bunch of useless crap

Geez, between the whining about the new JU layout and the whining about the whining about the new JU layout I'm not sure which is worse. Either way there seems to be a lot of whining going on.

Maybe it's just the fact that everyone is sick of the Winter weather. It sure makes me less than agreeable and far more bellicose than I would normally be.

Folks get a bit depressed during the Winter months, some of us more than others. Some folks get downright cranky this time of year. That's normal I guess.

The thing to do is to recognize your own mood and to try to make it more positive. That's just my opinion of course but it works for me most of the time. I get in those down moods just like anyone else and being a person who suffers from severe clinical depression can get pretty negative at times.

I have learned to spot when I am going into one of those down turns and to work extra hard at trying to divert that into a more positive vein. It isn't always easy but it does help.

That may seem like it doesn't apply but it actually does. Yes JU has changed. It's different and new and requires a bit of a learning curve. How one approaches that change is what matters. One can choose to bitch and whine and cry about it  or one can choose to take the time to learn how the new system works.

Personally I like the new system, warts and all. It's far better than the old one and I appreciate the fact that people took the time to write the thousands or perhaps even millions ( probably thousands) of lines of code that makes it work.

People can choose to whine about the change or they can choose to learn the new layout. If there are things that don't work right they can simply tell those people who took the time to write the code that these things don't work or they can just whine without ever telling those who have the skills to fix it.

Personally I have read some things written lately that I have found both obnoxious and offensive from the owner of the site but I understand why he wrote them and why he felt the need to write them. Perhaps he could have expressed himself in a more friendly manner but I suspect he wrote them from a very frustrated and perhaps even offended place. Frankly I can't blame him.

I feel that JU is the best blogging site on the web today and am appreciative that there are people working to make it even better. Writing code is not an easy task and writing code that always works all of the time is especially hard. It takes time, skill, and good feedback to make it all work properly. If you've never written any code you have no idea. Just take a look at the source for the page you're viewing right now. That's just simple HTML.

Whining about the fact that it isn't the same when things have been changed is both silly and pointless. If there  are specific things that don't work correctly one just has to send a message to those in charge and they will be aware of them. Whining in general terms like "it sucks" simply doesn't help anyone.

Frankly I am sick of the whining. I helped beta test the new format and found it to be better than the old one. The folks writing the code were very open to suggestions and are still so. Instead of whining just tell them exactly what needs to be fixed or what you would like to see and I am sure they'll at  least consider these things as they move forward.

Or just write your own 100,000 lines of code and start your own site. For free.

Personally, I like cheese with mine.

Anyway, it's growing on me. I've always had a hang up about changes but eventually I always do come around.

Excellent article Mason, pretty much what I wish I had taken time and words to say about the situation.  I like the new JU and hope to see it grow and get better.  Sure there are some problems, but over time they'll get worked out and later we'll all look back and laugh about the times when things weren't working right and weren't as nice as they wind up being.

I agree it must be the long winter and maybe even the frustration of things here in the US with high gas prices, food prices and end of the world type of news.

Kinda interesting how things have spruced up a bit though due to all this whining.

I like that we are upgraded.  My only suggestions are a less cluttered homepage and more options to personalize my blog page.

The biggest change I have noticed is the speed....waaayyy faster than the previous site.

Thanks. Change upsets some people but I view it as moving forward. A stagnant pond is never pretty.

Yeah life is tough at times. I hear a lot of the same sort of whining from my fellow truckers but the economy goes up and down much like anything else. Ya ride out the bad and eventually it'll swing up again.

Yep, it is much better from that perspective.

Well said, mate. I think it also takes time for a lot of us to warm to anything new. Me, I'm anything if adaptable.

I'm the same way. Lack of change equals stagnation and death to me.

That is true. I have noticed the pages load much faster now.

I think people often forget how awful the old JU was and how long it took to make it passable.

I mean heck, it used to be down for days at a time.

It won't take long for the more important wanted features to come back online.  We just had to get it up quickly lest we be forced to take it down entirely when Sins of a Solar Empire took off.

I think it's safe to say we all realise this!

I agree Mason, it basically really comes down to attitude doesn't it? While we can't have control over many things, we can control our attitudes and as easy as it is to let our emotions get the better of us, it is better for all (including self) if we take control of what we do have control over.

Heh! Does that make sense....lol?

Besides all that.....Spring is almost here! Yay!

Damn, and I am missing all the fun.
