A bunch of useless crap

I'm still holed up in a hotel while the engine shop tries to figure out why my truck is losing coolant. I was bored yesterday around lunch time and took a walk to look around a bit and stretch my legs while seeking out something to eat,

A couple of blocks down I found a brand new Whataburger. I would never have expected to find one here. You find Whataburgers all over Texas but until recently you never saw them anywhere else. The company has started expanding and building locations in other states after all of these years of being a Texas chain.

Whatabirgers are great. Unlike most fast food burger joints they don't serve you some lame tiny little hamburger. These things are huge, You really do need two hands to eat one of these things. And they taste fantastic.  Naturally I went in and ordered up a Whataburger meal.

I like the way they do things as opposed to most fast food joints. You place your order and they give you your cup and a number placard so you can go ahead and sit down. They bring the food to your table instead of making you stand around waiting for it.

I thoroughly enjoyed my lunch. Afterwards I walked around a bit more checking out the locale, and then returned to my room to surf the net, watch the idiot box, and knit while waiting to hear from the engine shop about my truck. As they never called yesterday I can only assume the news isn't going to be good.

I'll be calling them this morning for an update but I am pretty sure it will amount to "stay in the hotel we aren't there yet".

We've had a few of them scattered around central Virginia for years.  Love their food.  The neighbourhood I used to live in had one right outside the entrance (walking distance).  Since it was right next to the community ball field, it was a good place to grab a drink and a good burger (chicken sandwich is good, too) and take in a ball game during the summer.

I have found a place that makes a better burger (and better fries).  It's called 5 Guys Burgers and Fries.  Fresh cut boardwalk style fries (to include dumping an extra scoop full of fries in the bag after putting the rest of your food in) and everything made on site, to order.  Very good.  Colonial Heights, VA appears to be the farthest south they are, though.  It's probably a good thing, though.  I'd eat there more often.

Oh, good luck with the truck.  Hopefully they'll finally get it figured out this time and you won't have a repeat visit from Murphy anytime soon.  This makes ... what?  Time #4 in the last 6 months in the engine shop for the same problem?

Thanks. Yeah it's been an ongoing problem for a long time now.

I loves me some Whataburger, but unfortunately they're not even close to my area.  Last time I got to enjoy visiting one was several years ago now   I really wish they'd expand East-ward a lot more so I'd have a good alternative to the places that I really hate going (like McD's)

They are actually close to what you describe whataburger as. IN California, they also have In-n-out. Not as good, but still, they cook it AFTER you order it and the burgers are good sized as well.

Sorry about the Truck. Hope by this time tomorrow it is just a bad memory.

I imagine by now that the waiting around is old.  It's nice for a day or two huh?!

Never heard of Whattaburger,  sounds good.  BK used to have HUGE burgers,  back about 1973..now they're puny!

Hope they come to Mn.!

I'll have to check them out whenever I get up that way.

I am hoping the truck will be fixed tomorrow but as they haven't called me with an update since I spoke with them this morning I'm not holding my breath.

Well I was at home for over a week so I wasn't wanting to sit around another day or two. Such is the trucking biz.

Whataburgers are great. If you ever travel South definitely check them out.

Yeah, I've seen Whatabruger's while passing through Texas, always wanted to try it, but never got a chance. Last time I was up in Kingman, AZ I noticed they were building one. I'll have to get up there someday and try it out. They're even advertising on Arizona TV these days.

BK used to have HUGE burgers,

The Whoopers are still pretty large around here (so much so, I'm always surprised when I open one up), especially when compared to the incredible shrinking Big Mac patty. It'll be interesting to see a Whataburger. I'm not gonna get a meat-frisbee on a bun, am I? Nothing like the whole family sitting at the table and pulling their chairs up to the Whataburger -- one massive, Whataburger. "Um, ma'am, can we have a doggie bag?"

There were several Whataburgers in Phoenix when I lived there...early 70s. They were grreat. Haven't seen one in a while, a long while. There was a big burger battle going on about that time...Dairy Queen opened their first brazier-broil in Phoenix around then and they had the best double burgers...charcoal broiled with melted cheese drippin down. What happened? The DQ brazier here in the Swirling Epicenter makes crap on a bun and calls it chow. Glad you found a good one and enjoyed it. Hope you're makin' smoke again soon.

Whataburgers are so good. What I like is they're open 24 hours. Nothing like those late late night snacks.

They're not quite that big.

I've never like DQ burgers.

Thanks.
