I've had the flu before. Most everyone has I would think. But this one, this strain, is different. It's a real ass kicker. Normally the flu might put me out of commission for a day or two and then just make me feel bad for several more days and that would be that. This one has literally taken me off me feet since it grabbed hold of me. I find it amazing how something so small you can't even see it can take a grown man off his feet.
I've been dealing with it the best I can. I've been dosing myself with Nyquil, drinking fluids, and sleeping as much as possible. I checked into the hotel on Tuesday. I made a single quick stop over at Applebee's to drop off a hat, and one to the grocery for Nyquil and liquids, and pretty much haven't been out of bed since except to use the bathroom. I think I've probably been sleeping a total of 20 - 22 hours a day broken up by waking long enough for a coughing fit and then going back to sleep again.
To say I haven't eaten much would be an understatement. I've had no desire for food at all. Knowing that I have to eat anyway I have tried to force myself to eat a little bit here and there. I've managed to eat a single ham sandwich over the course of a day, two days in a row. Last night I ordered a pizza thinking perhaps that would appeal to me. I managed about 4 bites and couldn't stomach any more. That was a waste of money. I wish I had some nice hot chicken soup.
The hotel lobby has a waffle maker. I may wander up there and make myself one. I really need to eat something whether I want to or not. I had hoped I would be starting to feel better by now but this damn flu is a tough bug and doesn't show any signs of letting up yet. I've coughed so much and so violently the past few days that my ribs ache and my throat is so raw I can barely speak. And the never ending headache. It just won't go away. Maddening.
Somehow I am reminded of Captain Trips.
