A bunch of useless crap
Screwed again

In February of this year I received a ticket for 'improper lane change' while driving my rig through Georgia. The ticket was bogus. The cop was standing up the road, outside of his car using his laser gun. I signaled, waiting for the lane to clear, and moved over so as to not pass too closely to the cop.

Well, he says I cut off a car when I changed lanes which was pure bull. He was just looking to write a ticket. Well, anyway, my court date was the 19th of last month, but I was hauling a military load out to Seattle. You don't just drop a military load. I called the court house and advised them that there was no way for me to make the trial. The lady said she would set me up a new trial date and send a letter advising me of the new date.

Well, guess what? I just received a notice of failure to appear. Now the fine is double and if I don't pay it in 10 days my license will be suspended. Needless to say, I called this airhead court clerk and gave her hell. She says she doesn't even remember talking to me. "How then, would I know your name lady?" I inquired through clenched teeth. "I dunno". Airhead response.

Well, now there's nothing to be done but send the $133 I can't spare to the redneck court if I want to keep my license.

Just what I needed right now. I begin to understand the clock tower sniper mentality.

before i sent the money, id check to see if the court can be contacted via email (believe it or not, some of the most computer accessible courts are in the south). if not, send a letter that covers all the facts youve mentioned (include the clerks name) and send copies of your manifest to substantiate your assertion about the time-sensitivity of your load. i must be one of the few people who hasnt received a ticket in ga, but ive only been thru the state twice.

the judge will hopefully see it your way--at least as far as the court date issue--and youll get out of the fta thing as well as the penalty surcharge.

Thanks Kingbee. Actually I did get to speak with the Judge's secretary after my frustrating conversation with the clerk. Turns out it was the judge himself who refused to change the court date. He doesn't like truckers. Guess I'll just pay it and forget about it.

you should at very least do another article and be sure to mention his name (once the thing has been adjudicated).
(hahahaah im just kidding...sorta)

I'd also cut my nose off to spite my own face

Yep, that would pretty much be it. I prefer to pick my battles. A redneck Georgia judge, in a small community, who doesn't like truckers. Hmmmmmm. Nope, don't think this one would be worth the fight.
