I made it home today and will be here until at least the day after Christmas. It was a pretty good run down here from WI.
I finished loading around 3:00 on Tuesday afternoon. I then set out for Florida. I knew the traffic around the Chicago area would be pure hell so I cut across WI so as to drop down I-39 on the western side of Illinois to avoid that mess. While it added a few more miles to the trip it avoided the Chicago and Gary, IN traffic nightmare and actually saved me time.
I delivered the first stop in Port Charlotte, FL on Thursday afternoon. Port Charlotte is way down south of Sarasota. My final stop was in Sanford, FL which is NE of Orlando. As there isn't any truck parking anywhere near there I cruised up a little north of Tampa and spent last night at the truckstop there.
I got up extra early this morning and set off on the back highways across to Sanford so as to be there at 8:30 am as I had promised the customer. Being the Friday before Christmas they wanted to knock off early. So did I. I made the delivery and it was an amazingly easy ride to home from there.
Normally traffic through Orlando is a mess any time of day, especially during tourist season which is already in effect here. Today traffic was only moderately heavy and there weren't even any of the usual fender benders to snarl things up. Murphy must have been off messing up someone else's day.
I am now happily at home and taking it easy. I'll order in for dinner tonight and do the grocery shopping tomorrow. I still have a little knitting to finish before Christmas day, but that shouldn't be too much of a problem now that I am home and can focus some time on it.
