A bunch of useless crap

Dinner is cooking and it smells great. I tend to experiment with different improv recipes when I am home. Tonight I am working on a sort of goulash kinda thing that I threw together and if it tastes half as good as it smells it's going to be a treat.

I browned some lean ground beef, combined that with some elbow macaroni, tomato sauce, petite cut Roma tomatoes, finely diced white onion, finely diced red and green peppers, finely diced half clove of garlic, a dash of red pepper, a dash of white pepper, a dash of salt, a half cup of water, a couple of bay leaves, and a couple of dashes of oregano.

Pretty simple fare really but as it's simmering on the stove the smell is wonderful. I can hardly wait for it to be ready to eat.

I love meat, but I could go with out it on this meal.  The rest of the ingredients do sound delicious! Meat tastes great, but then garlic, tomatos and pasta taste better!

Yeah it would be just as good without the meat but I like to have some form of protein in the meal.

I love goulash. The meat is the best part. What's the difference between white pepper, red pepper, and black pepper?

What's the difference between white pepper, red pepper, and black pepper?

Doh! One's red, one's white and one's black. (said the ditzy blonde. )

They all have their own distinct flavors.

I want to know what they are without trying them, but really, how do you describe a taste?

Easy. One of them tastes exactly like white pepper, one them tastes exactly like black pepper, and one tastes exactly like red pepper. I'm sure you have some black pepper around the house. Taste that. The other two taste different.

See, that wasn't so hard.

Actually I think I have all 3, hence I want to know their uses. I looked at white pepper, and it said, "Use in white dishes where you would use black pepper."

The best way to tell the differences is to taste them. I wouldn't do it one right after the other as your taste buds would be overpowered and wouldn't be able to distinguish them.

Those instructions were either written by a moron or for one (much like shampoo bottles). White pepper is used in a great many dishes other than just "white dishes".

Black and white pepper come from the same plant. A black peppercorn is picked when still green and dried in the sun until it turns black. A white peppercorn ripens fully on the vine before it is picked. Black pepper has a slightly hotter flavor and aroma.
