A bunch of useless crap

Just got home from the road. Has been a really good tour this time. I got to tour some very beautiful scenery.

After I left home I hauled a load up to Wisconsin where I loaded a large sweeper (had a 20 foot broom) and a small power unit. The power unit was going to Twin Falls, ID and the sweeper was going to the seaport in Seattle, WA where it was to be loaded on a ship headed for Japan.

The ride out to Seattle was great. I got to cruise across Iowa, Wyoming, Idaho, Utah, Oregon, and Washington. The weather was cooperative and I really enjoyed the ride. Along the way I saw several small herds of antelope along side the highways and even spotted a couple of elk. The mountain scenery in Washington and Oregon was fantastic.

One small truckstop in Wyoming where I spent a night had a little bar in it. While it was nothing fancy, I did enjoy some good conversation with a few fellow drivers and some of the locals. The antelope and elk heads mounted on the walls really added to the ambiance of the place.

After delivering in Seattle, I picked up a couple of Hummers at an Airforce base in Tacoma, WA bound for the Airforce base in San Antonio, TX. This is where the trip really got good. There really isn't a good interstate route from Washington to Texas so I had to choose a secondary route.

I decided to run to Salt Lake City, UT and pick up route 89 south into Arizona where I could catch I-10 into San Antonio. Route 89 is one of the few roads I have never run before so I looked forward to some new scenery. I wasn't disappointed.

Route 89 runs through some very beautiful scenery in Utah. One river canyon was gorgeous. The road runs right along side of a river through the canyon for miles. It was all I could do to not stop and pitch my tent beside that river. I did stop for the night in Karab, UT, which is a small town on Route 89.

I visited the local outfitter there and bought myself a new desert hat and some small camping items. I then had dinner on the patio of a small restaurant across the street which had a magnificent view of the mountains. While eating I struck up a conversation with an older couple who turned out to be on vacation from Holland. They were really blown away by the scenery too.

After San Antonio, I ran up to Tyler, TX, then over to a small town near Nashville, TN where I met some interesting folks. Then on up to Chicago and ultimately back to Wisconsin where I picked up the load that delivered in North Carolina and allowed me to get home today.

All in all, it has been a pretty good couple of weeks. Paid good, too.
