A bunch of useless crap

I am almost finished knitting my first hat. I was working on it last night when the yarn snapped right in the loop of a purl stitch on the needle as I went to purl it. Ack! This has never happened to me before so I wasn't sure of exactly what to do about it.

As it was a stitch already on the needle the ends of the yarn weren't very long at all. I had to carefully tie them off into a knot which was not an easy task with those two very short little pieces. I did finally manage it and slipped a small cable hook through the knot so the stitch wouldn't drop. I then made an increase to get the stitch count back to where it needed to be.

I knitted back around to that point and then purled the knotted piece with the newly created stitch made with the increase so as to secure it to a good stitch and prevent it dropping. It was purely improvisation on my part but it's the only way I could think of to fix the problem without having to frog the work back. It seems to have worked. Whew!

The hat is now almost finished. I am doing the decreases now that shape the top of the hat. Between preparing to hit the road again, finishing up the laundry, assorted other household chores, and doing the knitting I should have it finished some time today, possibly around lunch time.

I'm already trying to decide what I am going to do for my next project. I have a pair of cotton socks on the needles that I haven't worked on for a while and need to be finished, but I just haven't felt like doing socks for a while now. Besides, cold weather is coming and the cotton socks are really more for warm weather. I may do a pair of heavier ones for Winter but need to buy the yarn for that. I'll be looking for that when I get back to WI and can visit Hobby Lobby again.

I'm planning on trying to do my first sweater soon but need to buy the yarn for that too. I haven't quite settled on a pattern yet but as it's going to be my first one I expect it'll be something pretty basic. I'm thinking of a top down, in the round, Aran sweater, possibly with a bit of a turtle neck.

For the time being I may just start another hat with some of the yarn in my stash. Hats are a reasonably quick and easy project and come in handy in the cold weather months. I haven't yet tried working with two colors so that might be the next thing for me to try and learn. I try to learn something new on each project. I have some black yarn and some white yarn so I may try to make a hat with that.

I haven't heard from dispatch yet but will probably be hitting the road again tomorrow. At least that's the plan. I still have to finish up the laundry (there's a load in now) and iron what needs to be ironed, pack everything up again, and start getting the house ready to be closed up again. Looks like I'll be busy today.

Thanks. I'll post a pic once it's finished. Not too much more to go.

I haven't done much in the way of bright colors as they're not really my taste. The first scarf I did was red but everything else I've done has pretty much been more or less darker colors, earth tones, and the like.

Take your hat and scarf.  The heat wave is supposed to break tomorrow (nineties again today), and we will be in the 60s by the weekend.  I suspect up north it will be a mite colder.

Yeah, that's why I wanted to get them finished while home. Thanks.
