A bunch of useless crap

I've been here at the port all day. I got here reasonably early in the hope of getting loaded and being on my way. No such luck, which is typical for a port these days.

I've been sitting in line, third back from the front, waiting for my turn to load. I spent most of the morning just sitting and watching them loading junk military vehicles onto rail cars which probably won't even leave here before next week at the soonest. After a few hours they finally decided to start loading the trucks that are ready to load and leave NOW.

They loaded the two ahead of me and it was then my turn. Naturally it was time for them to break for lunch. Figures. A SGT pulled up and got out of her vehicle and approached my truck. I rolled down the window so she could inform me they were breaking for lunch and what time they'd be back. She also informed me that if I wanted to get something to eat that there was a cafeteria in the basement of the courthouse just outside the gate. Easy walking distance.

I walked over there to check it out as I was getting pretty hungry. I wound up getting some baked chicken, rice, pinto beans, and a piece of cornbread and brought the meal back to my truck. It was actually quite good. Honest to goodness down home country vittles. Not at all what I was expecting to find in the courthouse basement cafeteria.

So I've had my lunch and am just waiting for the crew to return from their own lunch break and resume work. They're due back in about 15 minutes but knowing port crews I won't bet the farm on them being on time.

Well, at least I'm next.

I see Murphy's still riding shotgun!

You need to get a bumper sticker that says "Murphy is my co-pilot". LOL!

But, hey, at least the wait was mitigated by good food.

He's tracking you through your GPS.

Finally got the truck loaded and secured. The damage isn't as bad as they had made it sound. Mostly just the drivetrain and engine. One door was jambed open but a little work with a chain and binder and I managed to force it to shut. I put a strap over the cab to ensure the doors remain shut.

The damn thing is really, really heavy though. It's all that armor plating. It weighs in at a tad over 55,000 lbs which puts me over legal weight. I'm now sitting at the truckstop waiting for them to get me the overweight permits I need. Yet another delay. I doubt I'll be going anywhere today.

As heavy as this is I'm going to put on a couple more chains before I leave out with it. What I have on it now meets the legal requirements but with that much weight a couple of extra ones can't hurt and may avoid some headaches up the road.

While I was sitting around I found a geocaching teeshirt I have to order. I love it.
