Today I helped out the office by spending some time picking up a couple of generators and hauling them back to the yard. It's not something I was getting paid for, but it was better than sitting around in a hotel room being bored by what passes for entertainment on television. I used one of the spare trucks but did stipulate that the truck had to have working ac as there are a couple of them that don't.
While waiting around at the factory I got hungry and wandered into their break room. I found a ham and Swiss sandwich on "tomato basil bread". I had some reservations about the reddish colored bread but tried it anyway. It was actually pretty good, but maybe that was just because I was really hungry.
After dropping the load at the yard I headed for the barber shop as I had planned to get a haircut today. I use the term barbershop loosely as it's really more of a beauty shop that happens to cut men's hair. I prefer a real men's barbershop but when in Rome... The haircut turned out a little better than I expected so I can't complain, and the "barber" was pretty cute.
When I got back to my room I showered and changed into some clean clothes. I put on a pair of olive green cargo shorts and a green "safari" shirt I bought at Cabella's. The shirt is very comfortable and looks pretty good to me. I wanted one in khaki but there weren't any in my size so I settled on the green. I then donned my khaki hat and headed for Applebee's for some dinner and a couple of adult beverages.
I received the usual welcome over at Applebee's. Hugs, handshakes, and a couple of quick kisses. For whatever reason many of the folks who work there really like me. "C", who calls me Sam because she thinks I sound like Same Elliott, was the most affectionate among them She commented on my new shirt, saying that I looked like I just got back from a safari. I told her it was comfy and at least I remembered to shave this morning (with a laugh). She said I always looked good when I came in. I let that one pass by.
I had a good dinner and a few beers. The manager, "G" spent some time chatting with me, and I had a good time in general. But I behaved myself and left after a bit and returned to my room. The fact that the damn chigger bites on my foot were itching like hell and needed some cream helped me behave myself.
While the shirts and other clothing at Cabella's are a tad on the pricey side, at least to my wallet, I have to admit they are quite comfortable and well made. And I do like the look.. I think I'll be visiting there and picking up the odd shirt, pants, and shorts here and there as I can afford it. The way they are made they should last long enough to make their price worth it.
Maybe they'll get some more khaki stuff in my size before my next visit.
Oh yeah, the adorable little red head was working at Applebee's tonight but I didn't get a chance to talk to her. Damn I wish I was 20 years younger.
