They had the ac in my truck fixed by the time I got to the yard. I checked in at the office and he said he was putting together a load to Florida for me. That will work out just fine. The annual 72 hour Federal DOT concentrated inspection will be taking place of the 6th, 7th, and 8th of this month. It's when they bring in extra manpower at all of the scales as well as put extra vehicles on the road to pull over trucks for inspections. It's a real pain in the ass and doesn't actually accomplish anything other than ramping up ticket revenues.
I'll be sitting safely at home while they play their stupid little game.
My load is an Army truck going to Jacksonville, FL, and a forklift and a generator both going to different locations in NC.
I was working on chaining and strapping the load when we got a sudden down pour. It rained like hell for about 30 minutes. I got soaked before I could get into the garage and out of the rain. I waited it out and when it stopped I finished securing my load. I hate working with wet equipment, but what can ya do?
We were a bit concerned about the weight distribution. We had to move the Army truck back a forth a bit until the air gauges indicated legal weights. The air gauges aren't 100% accurate but they do give me some idea about the weight. I scaled it out at the truck stop and the weights are indeed legal, but it's pretty close on my drive axles. I'll have to make the run to NC only fueling up to 50% of capacity to keep the weight legal.
I made it down to the WI/IL line. I'm going to get some rest here and head out in the morning. I want to make Knoxville for tomorrow night, which I should be able to do. I want to revisit the little bar across the street from the truck stop there as I left my rather expensive sunglasses there the last time I visited. I am hoping they will still have them. If not, well that's the way it goes but it'll be worth checking.
