A bunch of useless crap

This morning I got up early and had a nice healthy breakfast before heading over to pick up my truck at the garage. I had coffee, a banana, and an apple. While it doesn't sound like much it was actually filling, satisfying, and didn't leave me feeling bloated and heavy the way my normal greasy sausage and eggs breakfast tends to do.

I picked up my truck and started heading North. I think the truck may be fixed this time. So far I haven't had to add any water to it and it seems to be running normally again. Time will tell.

I had set Monday as the day I quit smoking. But I had also decided to start cutting back which I have done. I am down to the last pack of cigarettes. As I have cut way back that pack will probably last me through today. I won't be buying any more so I suppose tomorrow will now be the quit day.

I should clarify something so as to not inadvertently mislead any readers. When I make reference to quitting smoking I am of course referring to cigarettes. I will continue to enjoy my pipe on occasion. I don't view smoking a pipe and smoking cigarettes in the same way as one doesn't inhale pipe smoke therefore it doesn't affect the lungs or oxygen levels in the bloodstream. Pipe smoking is all about flavor and not about getting a nicotine fix although one does still absorb a small amount of nicotine though it's nowhere near the levels one gets from a cigarette. I'll still enjoy my pipe now and again.

Upon reflection I have decided to not purchase and use "the patch" or any other NRT product. I feel that replacing the nicotine from cigarettes with that from a patch will really do nothing more than prolong the process. Better to just allow the nicotine levels in my system to decrease and get it over with. It's 90% mental anyway.

I'm actually looking forward to getting my lungs cleared again and getting rid of the smoker's cough that I have suddenly developed over the past few weeks. I am also hoping that the increased oxygen supply to my bloodstream will help reduce this lethargy that has overtaken me of late.

I just finished a low fat 6" sub from Subway and it's time to get on up the road a bit. I am about an hour South of Atlanta. I'll be glad to get through that mess as it'll be pretty smooth sailing until I hit the other mess that is Nashville. I may spend the night just South of Nashville and cruise through there Sunday morning while traffic is still relatively light. From there it should be easy going all the way to MI.

I know what you mean, mason. I've never been a smoker, but I enjoy a QUALITY cigar from time to time. I may have to try a pipe for the heck of it.

Don't brag about your truck too much.. you know what might happen... good luck the rest of the trip, and I know you can quit the cigs.... hang tough!

Why wait till Monday to stop? Go cold now.

I could NEVER do that. I am as hard a core nicotine addict there is. When I quit smoking I also "every now and then" dipped snuff and chewed tobacco too so I knew I had to get my use to zero or, sooner or later, I'd be right back. Heh, to me if I did that it would be like an alcoholic quitting vodka and bourbon and "just drinking beer." Now I'm not saying it won't work for you, but for me? Heh, there's NO WAY in hell. I love that drug waaaaaaay to much.

(P.S. I worried at first that I'd never be able to drink coffe or beer again without a cig, but believe me, I got over that!!!   )

Yeah, they just aren't the same thing. I'll probably still enjoy a cigar now and again too, but I do enjoy a good pipe. I can live (literally) without the cigarettes.

Yeah I know, Murphy might be listening.

Thanks.

As I said in this article, I'll be going quit tomorrow instead of Monday. I know it would be easy enough to just toss the remaining smokes and dive right in, but it's not in my nature to be wasteful. I spent the money on the smokes and that factors into my plan and schedule.

Yeah, I can see your point, but for me a pipe or even a cigar is just not the same as a cigarette. For some it may be. I never inhale pipe or cigar smoke, they're for flavor not for inhaling. For me at least that makes a huge difference.

And speaking of beer, I think it's getting about that time.

In the article here I had a bit of a brain fart. Instead of editing the article I'll just make the correction here. I mentioned Nashville and it should have said Knoxville, which is where I am currently.

Glad your truck is fixed!

Goodluck with quitting cigarette. I know it won't be easy, and I wish you luck with it.

Thanks. The more I think about giving up the cigarettes the easier it seems to me. At first I thought of it as some horrific experience but now I am at the point where I am looking forward to it and am convinced that it's not a bad thing at all.

Guess I am late, and you have quit!  Good luck now.  But I know you can do it.
