I checked out of the hotel at 10:00 this morning and went over to the yard to find out about the status of my truck. They said it's supposed to be ready some time after lunch. Cool.
I unloaded my stuff from the van and turned the key in to the shop. I then checked in at the office. My worker's comp check had finally arrived and the office had loaded the money onto my fuel/payroll card. I endorsed the check so they could deposit it into their account.
"R" in dispatch said that he had a fire truck for me heading for Key West, but that it won't be ready to load at the factory until tomorrow. He also said that I should keep that info to myself as he had several drivers wanting loads in that direction but that he had saved it for me as I haven't been home in so long (and I always help him out when he needs it).
So I grabbed the keys for a van, different one as the one I'd been driving was needed by our parts runner, and headed back to the hotel. I had just checked out an hour earlier and was checking back in. The desk clerk just laughed and said "Long time no see".
The shop is supposed to call me when my truck is ready to be picked up down in Milwaukee. Until then I am back to relaxing in the hotel. But at least now I know that I will be heading towards home some time tomorrow.
