A bunch of useless crap

I'm currently hanging out in the driver's lounge at the Detroit Diesel shop while they check out my truck to determine why it's drinking coolant at a rate of 3 or 4 gallons a day. I'm still hoping that it's something simple like a leak I just couldn't spot due to all of the rain. But I'm not going to hold my breath on that. The most likely suspect is the EGR cooler, but it could be the head, the radiator, or the charge cooler. But that's why these guys make the big bucks; they have the tools to figure these things out.

I spoke with the mechanic, err excuse me, technician, for a couple of minutes and then left him to do his thing. He said he would let me know something soon. I just hope it's something that can be repaired today while I wait. If it turns out to be the head that'll probably take a couple of days.

At least the place is reasonably comfortable. A decent lounge with comfortable chairs and a sofa, satellite television, coffee pot (but I can't seem to find the coffee), a cafeteria area with that oh so wonderful vending machine food, and I have an internet signal. I'm pretty well set for the moment.

Now to go ask someone about the coffee.

Technician?  I thought they were Automotive engineers?

When I was a kid they were mechanics. At some point they became "technicians". I guess that gives them an excuse to charge more. This shop charges a minimum of $92/hr labor. That's actually cheap for a diesel shop.
