This morning I "slept in" until 6:15. After getting up at 5:00 for the past couple of mornings it felt like sleeping in anyway. No alarm, just woke up on my own which is really the best way. I had a few cups of coffee and shot the breeze with a couple of old hands sitting around the coffee counter, and then returned to my rig to prepare to roll.
As I was starting to pull out I thought I ought to have a closer look at my Texas oversize permit as many cities have a curfew. Sure enough, I couldn't go into Houston until after 9:00am. Ok, back inside for another hour of coffee and breeze shooting.
I finally rolled and made it to the port terminal where I stood around for a good while waiting before finally pulling into a mud hole of a lot to detach and drive off the fire truck. Darned if I didn't accidentally set off the lights and sirens again.
I went to the truck stop to have a bite to eat and call in to dispatch. The load he had lined up for me fell through so now I'm waiting for them to find another one. Looks like I'll be here over night.
Anyway, while at the truck stop I couldn't get my Cingular card to connect to the internet service. I glanced over at the calendar and realized why. The bill was due yesterday. Worker's Comp still owes me a little over $600. Friday they had said they were sending it out. I had hoped to have it, and have the bill paid (only $150) before today. As usual the Worker's Comp insurance company is taking their sweet ass time getting the check to me. If they sent it out Friday it should have arrived on Monday, Tuesday at the latest.
Now when I do finally get the money I'll have to pay the bill plus interest plus a reconnect fee of around 30 bucks. Not to mention I'll have to rely on truck stop WiFi service until then and do without internet anywhere else. This sucks. How hard is it to mail a damn check?
The truck stop WiFi service is actually much faster than the pc card I've been using, but it's just nice to be able to connect from almost anywhere, at any time. Ah well, I'll just have to make do for now. It just stinks that the damn insurance company is costing me money by not paying me in a timely manner. I should have had that check over a week ago. Friday they said they "forgot" to mail it. Real professional.
I'm low on cash at the moment but luckily I have enough frequent fueler points on my card to pay for WiFi service for tonight. I'll have to take a cash advance tomorrow to cover meals and such, but at least I'm set for tonight. I'll be glad when Friday gets here and I collect my first paycheck since getting back on the road after hurting my back.
