A bunch of useless crap

Well, my run of bad luck is still holding fast. I ran hard yesterday so that I would be within reach of my delivery point for this afternoon. Piece of cake as they say.

Until Murphy (the bastard) stepped in. I'm having some problems with my truck now. It's going through quite a bit of coolant and yet I can't locate any leak. Saturday I had to top off the coolant level with two gallons. I didn't think much of it at the time as these big diesels do need coolant added now and again.

But this morning I had to add another three gallons to the system and there was a lot of white steam coming from my stacks when I pulled out of the truck stop. Not a good sign. I checked again for signs of any leaking and couldn't find any. I also verified that there is no coolant in the oil, which would indicate a head gasket problem. The engine isn't over heating which would also indicate a head gasket problem.

The only thing I can think of at this point is the EGR system is going bad. Again. The last time that happened I wound up spending 11 hours or so at a repair shop. I'm hoping it will hold up until I can make it back to the yard.

As I had to stop every couple of hours to check on the coolant level I didn't make such great time today. I am now sitting about an hour North of Houston and will have to deliver there tomorrow morning instead of today as planned.

I also have a very crappy cell signal here so my internet connection keeps dropping out on me every few minutes which can be infuriating. I'm pretty much in the boonies here so that's not too much of a shock.

Ah well, these things go along with the business I guess. But I sure as hell wish this bad luck streak would finally give it a rest. It's starting to wear a bit thin.

Hope things do hold out until you're back at the yard, but it sounds like it's going to be a longer trip than planned.

Sorry about the bad luck.  I would have guessed a head gasket, but since there is none in the oil, that expends my knowledge of engines.  Good luck on the return trip.  Hope it holds up for you.

Thanks, it has gone longer than it should have but such is life in a rig.

Yeah, I'm 99% sure it's the EGR system again.

Thanks.
