A bunch of useless crap

After I had some lunch I wandered into the truck stop tv lounge. I was sitting there all nice and quiet knitting on my sock and watching the idiot box when another driver came in and sat down. He asked me what I was doing and I told him that I was knitting a sock.

"You can actually knit your own socks?" he asked.

"Umm, yeah dude, socks don't grow on trees ya know." was my probably a tad too smart-assed reply.

The guy seemed genuinely fascinated by the idea that a person could actually knit their own socks. I don't know how he thought socks were made, but I guess it never occurred to him that they are knit.

I spent a couple of minutes showing him what I was doing, and how it's done. I'm knitting with a single circular needle using the Magic Loop technique. I guess I'm just so used to it now that I forget that ML does look pretty cool.

As I have to stay parked here until Monday morning before I can move this oversized load again I'll have plenty of time to get some knitting done as well as doing up some laundry. I'm running low on clean socks and boxers so I guess it's time to toss some stuff into a machine and let them swish around a bit. Sounds like a good project for a Sunday afternoon.

And I can knit some while they're swishing around.

Thanks Doc, but those aren't mine. I'm just knitting a pair of plain dark blue cotton socks at the moment.

I could never get the hang of knitting. I can crochet all the live long day, but I cannot knit. I should learn because you can do so much more knitting than crocheting. Plus, knitted scarves look better than crocheted. My Harry Potter scarves just don't look as cool as the ones in the movies.

All it takes is a bit of practice and patience.

If I of all people can do it I'm certain that anyone can.

Down south, we always plucked our socks off of sock trees.

Or maybe that was shoes off shoe trees?

I mostly see shoes on power lines... or beneath the trees. (Toes grip better than flip flops when you're trying to climb a tree.)

Whenever I have them finished I'll be happy to take a pic of them. Could be a while as I had to frog and start over

Have you made a pair of Jaywalker socks yet, Mason?  It's like a sock knitters rite of passage to make a pair....I have the pattern if you're interested.

I'm making a pair of socks with an Om symbol on the heel right now.  They're very cool...
