While at Appleby's this afternoon I was talking with the bartender. After being couped up in this hotel for so long I guess I was a bit more talkative than is normal for me (I'm usually the silent type). While I was chatting with the barkeep one of the servers came up to me and said that I sounded exactly like the actor Sam Elliott.
I've had people tell me that many times before. I guess it must be true. We must not hear our own voice in the same way that others hear it because I don't think I sound anything like him. But, being told that so many times, there must be some tonal quality in my voice that reminds people of him.
I know I do have a sort of deep and gruffish voice, so maybe I do kinda sound like him. When I don't have a full beard I have a fu manchu type moustache and at those times have been told that I look like him too. Maybe there's something about the shape of one's skull that in some way affects one's voice qualities?
I guess there are worse people to whom one could be compared. Pee Wee Herman comes to mind.
