I had a brief exam with the doctor this morning and got the scripts for more pain meds. I asked him to switch them from percocet and valium to something else as I don't want to start developing an addiction to anything. This time around it's vicodin and flexeril. As the muscle spasms aren't as bad as they had been I figure the flexeril will do ok.
I then went from him to the witch doctor. It wasn't too bad to begin with. His nurse had me lie on a table and she used ultrasound and electric shocks on my back muscles. All in all it wasn't unpleasant and did relax the muscles a bit. She said she could easily see which muscles were swollen and spent some extra time working on those.
I then went into another room, laid on another table, and the witch doctor do his hocus pocus manipulation torture for a few minutes. Not at all pleasant. I like the nurse much better. He then sat me in a chair and abused my legs for a while. Hurt like hell that did. He said something about my right hip being especially stiff and I had to remind him that's the one with a few pounds of steel pins and screws in it. "Oh, yeah, I forgot about that" was his reply.
The witch doctor recommended that I wear a back brace as at would compress things and help hold my spine straighter, especially while sitting. Ya have to love doctors. I had mentioned to the regular doctor last week that I had bought one of those lumbar support braces and he told me not to wear it as it would prevent the muscles from healing properly. I told the witch doctor that I would wear it.
I put it on when I returned to the hotel and I have to admit that it does make sitting a bit more comfortable even if it does feel a bit uncomfortable on my fat belly, errr I mean beer storage tank.
I had the prescriptions filled at the pharmacy right there at the medical clinic as they would bill it straight to Worker's Comp instead of the money coming out of my pocket. While I was waiting for them to be filled I shuffled across the hall to the optical place to see what kind of sunglasses they might have (I broke mine recently). I spent a few minutes trying on the different brands and styles they had there and the lady was very nice in helping me select a pair.
I'm kind of picking about sunglasses. I hate the ones with the little nose pads as they create pressure points and and after a while my nose gets sore. I also have a problem with some of them pressing a bit too tightly just behind my ears and that creates sore spots. Yeah, I'm a picky bastard what can I say?
The first pair that I really liked had a $199 price tag. I passed on those really quick even though I really liked them. I finally found a pair of Bolle that fit well, look decent (wrap around style in tortoise shell), and felt really comfortable. A good fit. Sadly they were also a bit more expensive than I like to spend on a pair of sunglasses, but I paid the $81 and bought them anyway. Maybe spending that much on a pair will make me a bit more careful and less likely to break them as opposed to the $10 ones I seem to go through rather quickly. They have good polycarbonate lenses so maybe they'll hold up a while. For that money they damn sure better.
So now it's back to staring at the walls of my hotel room and trying to stave off total boredom. As I've been on my feet for a while this morning and sitting here at the computer for more minutes than I really should right now, I'm going to lie down for a few minutes, wait for the pain killers to start doing their thing, and try to be comfortable for a bit.
