A bunch of useless crap

I walked up to the hotel lobby earlier to get a cup of coffee. The doctor told me to walk some but not too much. I figure that's about the right distance. The woman working the front desk this morning is not the one who was working yesterday but she also knows me as I have stayed here many times.

She noticed the way I was walking and surmised that I had injured my back. We chatted for a few minutes and I asked about any food places around here that would deliver (besides Dominoes). She said she would check in to it and let me know. A little later she knocked on my door and had menus from three different places; a Chinese place, a sub place, and a rib joint that would all deliver here. Very cool.

She also said that her son would be bringing her lunch to her and would be happy to stop and pick up something for me as well. That's great. Such nice people. I then thought about the fact that I had just been thinking about trying to walk to the grocery store to get a carton of smokes as the couple of packs the truck driver had brought me were just about gone. I asked her if she thought her son would mind picking up a carton for me. She said that he would do that no problem.

I kind of hated to ask really. I don't like to put people to any extra bother on my account, but figured if he was coming here anyway it would save me a long and painful walk.

It's great that there are so many nice people still around in the world. I can't help but think about my experience in that service plaza in Eastern PA where I couldn't even get a fellow driver to bring me something to eat when I couldn't walk at all. It's good to be back in an area where people are friendly and willing to think about someone other than themselves.

Nah, more like the ugly puppy women feel sorry for.

Some women like dogs. From your stories you seem to have a string of admirers across the continental US. I wouldn't be so hard on yourself. Let's face it - if it doesn't work it's not like you have to go back there.

I don't know if I would call them admirers. I'm just a friendly guy with a sense of humor and people tend to respond well to that.

I agree. What price is nice? A worker at the Pizza Hut once gave us three free chocolate drinks and another time when I was skint and in the benefits office for a 'Crisis Loan' a woman in there also applying for a 'crisis loan' offered to buy me a cup of tea, so at lunch time whilst waiting for our giros we went to a cafe and she bought us both a cup of tea with the little money she had left in her purse. Good on you and those nice people you met.

That was quite nice of her. It's always a good feeling to know there are still some good ones in the world.
