A bunch of useless crap

I've spent the biggest part of the day in my hotel room trying to rest my back as much as possible. I've periodically gone for short walks (more like shuffles really) and tried to gently stretch my back muscles a bit. Honestly it's been a pretty boring day but I'm not exactly feeling up for any excitement right now so that's cool.

I popped into the bar around noon, had a couple of beers, engaged in some inane chit chat, ordered chicken wings to go, and came back to my room. I repeated this ritual again at dinner time. Real exciting times eh?

Yeah, for the most part I'm seriously bored but I need to do whatever it takes to get my back into good enough shape to get back to work on Monday (I hope). I get on the computer for a few minutes at a time which is all my back can stand to sit in this chair and then either lie down or sit on the sofa for a while. I have to change positions between sitting, standing, and lying down as the back starts hurting and spasming if I stay in one of those positions for too long.

Ah well, nobody ever said getting injured is fun.

Oh man I do hope you get over this soon. I know back pains can be a lasting thing and hopefully yours will not be!

Thanks. I just got up and that's when it's the worst. After being in bed for several hours it's pure hell trying to move around. Hopefully it'll ease up some soon.

Try laying on the floor with your bent (90 degrees) legs up on a chair or the bed, this will help stretch the lower back muscles and it also 'opens up' the vertabrae, relieving pain if anything is pinchin' on a nerve. There have been times that this was the ONLY position I could get significant (read: healing) rest in, it's ok to use a small pillow for your head but be sure to scootch your butt as close to the edge of whatever you're propping your feet and lower legs on as you can, as this provides the relieving stretch.

Also, a couple (and only a couple!) of shots of hard liquor on top of 2 vicodin won't kill ya, as some would have you believe. It will, however, help you off to snooze-land. There's nothing better to do when bored and incapacitated than sleep!

Thanks LW. I've been doing the stretching thing, but am afraid that if I get down on the floor I won't be able to get up again. I'm having a real hard time just getting up from the bed or the couch.

In the bed I've been putting one of the pillows under my knees to help relieve some of the strain on my back just like I had to do after back surgery. It does seem to help some.

I haven't done any shots but I have had a few beers in the afternoon and a few in the evening. They do help relax me and definitely put me to sleep. I've been taking a nap in the afternoon as well as sleeping at night. During the night the pain wakes me several times. I think I'm going to have to just get up and move around a bit when this happens. Maybe that'll cut down on the morning spasms and pain some.

Does the Hotel have Internet access?  Or are you feeding off of the truck stop?  Just curious.  read the last one before this one.  I hope the therapy is short and the results soon to come.
