A bunch of useless crap

After I got my truck out of the shop, with a generator that was supposed to be fixed but turned out was still broken, I bobtailed into town for some lunch. On my way to grab a bite to eat I swung into the local computer shop and bought a 1GB memory stick for my laptop. I'd been meaning to add some RAM to it for some time and just hadn't got around to it yet. I popped the stick into the lappy and instantly improved it's performance by leaps and bounds as it came from the factory with only a measly 256MB.

After lunch I ran down to Milwaukee to pick up some mining equipment to haul back to the yard for someone else to haul it to AZ and NV. It was a bear to secure to the trailer as the stuff is a hodge podge of 8 foot gears, long steel gear tracks, crane platforms, etc. And of course it was snowing like hell the entire time which just made the whole experience totally miserable.

When I got back to the yard I dropped the trailer without even bothering to take my straps and chains off, I'll do it tomorrow, turned in the paperwork in the office, and made a bee line to the hotel so I could get in out of the damn snow. Have I ever mentioned how much I really hate snow?

After checking in to the hotel I trudged through 3 foot deep snow over to the Appleby's next door for a few cold ones and a hot dinner. I greatly enjoyed my meal and brews, but as it's Friday the place was getting really busy and I decided to trudge back through the blizzard to my nice warm (and quiet) room. I've never cared much for crowds.

While I'll still have to get out and work in the snow tomorrow, for tonight I'm nice and warm. Hopefully it'll stop snowing over night and at least the snow will just be on the ground and not blowing into my eyes while I'm trying to work.

My next load is taking me to upstate NY and then a final stop in NJ. Yuck. I'm not too excited about the destination, but I decided on that one over a much harder run to Houston as the TX run would have required me to hit the road tonight (and needed tarped which is no fun when it's sunny let alone snowing). After spending all day dealing with the shop and generator problems, and then the whole Milwaukee Friday rush hour in a snow storm thing, I didn't feel like hitting the road tonight.

So I'm back at the hotel, chilling out, well actually more like warming up, and just generally loafing.

glad your laptop flying now... sorry about the generator... hopefully a nice warm room, quiet, and a great movie & maybe some time w/ the sticks will help.. Have a safe trip, and remind that mechanic why people don't mess w/ truckers!

Thanks. I did get some knitting done on the sock I'm working on while waiting for the mechanic to not fix the generator. I'll do some more this evening while relaxing.

The mechanics don't really like the drivers all that much because we bitch at them all the time. This generator thing is a perfect example of why.

Mate, I hope the generator is fixed before you have to hit the road. It would be a pain if it weren't. Have a good evening and stay warm.

Sounds to me like they need a repairman for that generator that also fixes Maytag washers.....then the problem might actually get handled!

Thanks for jogging my memory too,  I'm tired of this snow already too!

Thanks, but it won't be. I have to start heading for NY today so won't have time for them to play around with it again.

I was tired of it when the first flake fell.

Ok, I read your other before this one.  Sorry about the generator.

As for Memory, that was one part I splurged on when getting my wife's computer.  I made sure it had 1gb - which means it has more than my desktop!

Yeah, it pays to bump up the RAM to the max. This lappy can handle A Max of 1298MB. It's now at 1256, which is close enough. I'd meant to do it for a long time but had just never got around to it.

My desktop only has 512MB so it's next on the RAM upgrade list. At least desktop RAM is cheaper.
