Yesterday was a busy one. I made delivery in the Chicago area, then raced up to Manitowoc to deliver there. I had to make it to that second stop before they went home at 2:30 (doesn't anyone work until 5:00 any more?). I then had to go down to Milwaukee and pick up a large machine piece and run it over to the Madison area for an express delivery.
I finally finished up around 6:00 last night and was pretty tired by that point. I pulled into a small truck stop there and noticed that the hotel next door had a lounge. By then I was more than ready for a cold one. I spent a couple of hours sucking down suds and shooting the shit with some of the locals and a couple of fellow drivers, and then called it a night as I was pretty tired.
I'm sitting here now waiting for a call from dispatch to let me know whether to deadhead to the yard or pick something up first. I want to get a load and get out of here as they are forecasting bad weather moving in starting tonight. It's looking like a pretty nasty Winter weekend and I would prefer to be a few hundred miles away before it hits.
I also need to have the shop work on my generator yet again as it still isn't working properly. This will make the third time, and both the boss and myself are getting a bit impatient with the mechanics over this. The bad thing is that the repair work will delay my departure. Hopefully I can still get out of the area before the bad weather moves in.
One of the dispatchers had me booked on a load to take a fire truck out to California but "R", the head dispatcher, was looking out for me and put it on someone else as he knows I hate going to CA. At this point I have no idea what sort of load I'll be getting or where it's going. As long as it gets me out of the Winter storm area I really don't care all that much.
I hate Winter.
