Today's driving was a very windy affair and was basically just going from one white-out to the next and hoping that some moron wasn't stopped on the road in the middle of one of them.
I finally made it to Albert Lea, MN and called it a day. I'm about 3 hours from the delivery point; close enough as this is the last major truck stop between here and there. On a cold, windy night like this I prefer to be parked some place with ample services.
The truck stop was already filling up when I pulled in and naturally, on a day when my back and hip are killing me, I couldn't get a parking spot even remotely close to the building. Back row, and a long walk to the nice, warm inside. Cold wind, bits of snow stinging the face, and feeling like I wasn't strolling on the beach in July. I was expecting to be accosted by a polar bear any second. I could have sworn I saw a penguin go by, but I'm sure it was just the wind making my eyes water.
Now I know how the stars felt in the movie March Of The Penguins. I've had my dinner and am stalling a little before making the arctic hike back to my truck. I'm going to look to see if they have any discounted DVDs on sale that I might be interested in watching. It's going to be an evening of knitting, watching movies, and hopefully staying warm.
I will definitely make sure that I have everything I need for tonight prior to making the trek across the frozen tundra that is the parking lot. I won't be making a return trip until morning as I am certain the polar bears do most of their hunting at night.
Did I mention it's cold here?
