A bunch of useless crap

Today's driving was a very windy affair and was basically just going from one white-out to the next and hoping that some moron wasn't stopped on the road in the middle of one of them.

I finally made it to Albert Lea, MN and called it a day. I'm about 3 hours from the delivery point; close enough as this is the last major truck stop between here and there. On a cold, windy night like this I prefer to be parked some place with ample services.

The truck stop was already filling up when I pulled in and naturally, on a day when my back and hip are killing me, I couldn't get a parking spot even remotely close to the building. Back row, and a long walk to the nice, warm inside. Cold wind, bits of snow stinging the face, and feeling like I wasn't strolling on the beach in July. I was expecting to be accosted by a polar bear any second. I could have sworn I saw a penguin go by, but I'm sure it was just the wind making my eyes water.

Now I know how the stars felt in the movie March Of The Penguins. I've had my dinner and am stalling a little before making the arctic hike back to my truck. I'm going to look to see if they have any discounted DVDs on sale that I might be interested in watching. It's going to be an evening of knitting, watching movies, and hopefully staying warm.

I will definitely make sure that I have everything I need for tonight prior to making the trek across the frozen tundra that is the parking lot. I won't be making a return trip until morning as I am certain the polar bears do most of their hunting at night.

Did I mention it's cold here?

My mother-in-law lives near Albert Lea! I hear MN is often sub-arctic in temperature. You coming ot Michigan anytime? If you're near Plymouth stop in at Stardock and lunch is on me! It's also probably a tiny bit warmer here.

Stay warm and safe.

Thanks Cordelia. I don't get to MI very often but it does happen once in a while.

Admittedly I was a little concerned you would say you'd be around on Thursday or Friday when I'm out of the office.

It's an open invitation - but I admit that summer is prettier than winter!

Ryan and I lived in Austin last year so I know what truck stop you're at. We stopped there for gas every now and again on the motorcycle. Too bad you're not driving through in the summer. Of course then it's so damned humid you can't stand it either.

Mate, hope you didn't freeze too much on the way back. Did ya find anything interesting to watch?

The wind must really be blowing if you are seeing penguins, since they are native to Antartica!

Hope you stayed warm.  And the snow lets up for the last part of the trip.

BTW:  Is it cold there?

I live in FL, humid is not a problem

The official Minnesota question is "is it cold enough for ya?"

Yes Mason you saw a penguin!  Nothing less.

How cold does it get here in Mn?  It gets so cold that people use the great outdoors as their own personal freezer for food.  Seriously.

My beard was frozen by the time I made it to the truck, but otherwise not so bad. I found a copy of Star Wars I for 10 bucks. It completes my Star Wars collection.

Yeah, strong wind blew em across the ice I guess

Just a lot.

When I got up this morning I saw an open parking spot ahead of me and closer to the building. When I went to move the truck the wheels were frozen to the ground. It took a bit of goosing the pedal to finally get them to break loose. I'm sure my brakes are frozen too but I'll just have to drag them until they break free.

! M you're so amusing! You gave me a laugh! I'm sorry you're so cold and have to trek across the frozen artic land!!

I hear how cold it is there so stay as warm as possible!

BTW M, man I can't tell you we're having some of that freeze over our way since yesterday! You should see your fellow Floridians, they look like eskimos!!

Just kidding on that part, but there are not too many shorts and flip flops this week!
