Whew! What a long day. The day didn't exactly go as I had planned, but when do they ever?
Instead of putting the truck in the shop first thing this morning dispatch asked me to run down to Milwaukee and pick up "a couple of things" headed for upstate NY first. Well, ok, I grabbed a trailer and headed on down there. The "couple of things" turned out to be a whole load of snow plow blades and hitches. Ack! Those things are a lot of work to strap down to the deck. I was already tired and it wasn't even noon yet.
I made it back to the yard and put my truck into the shop. I ate my lunch and did some knitting while they serviced the truck and repaired the air conditioner on my generator.
Once the truck was out of the shop about mid-afternoon dispatch told me that they had a load to TX for me but that other drivers were bringing the stuff in so I should just hang out for a couple of hours. Being as I was tired I was all for that. I did a little quick internet surfing and laid down for a quick nap.
The nap was not to be. Dispatch called me as soon as I lay down and said that one of the drivers had arrived with part of my load but that the other driver had gotten hung up and I would have to go down to Milwaukee and pick up the rest of it. *sigh*
I loaded what was at the yard, strapped it all down, (it's supposed to be tarped but I said to hell with that as it was getting dark by then), and headed into Milwaukee for the second time today. I made two stops in Milwaukee, about 10 blocks from each other, and had the rest of my load. By this time I was not only very tired but my hip was killing me and I was starving.
I made it to the truckstop at the WI/IL line, which by this time was already full, and found a reasonable looking spot to create a parking space then went inside to eat a much belated dinner. It's now a tad after 9:30PM Central time and I just finished eating.
I've taken a dose of Aleve and am now getting ready to turn in for the night. I'm bushed.
