I got the skid loader picked up in Tampa this morning. What a pain that turned out to be. I hope this isn't an indication of a trend for the coming year. I detached the front deck of the trailer and backed it to their dock so the skid loader could be driven onto it. No problem, that part went easy,
When I went to reattach the front deck I noticed a problem as the deck slammed against the front of the lower deck instead of sliding up onto it and mating with the slots. Hmmm, not good. I got out and checked to see what was amiss. The weight of the skid loader had compressed the suspension enough that the two decks no longer lined up properly. The front deck was about three inches too low. Crap.
I scrounged around and found some lumber and built a makeshift ramp that I could back my drive wheels up on so as to raise the deck enough to slide into place and mate with the lower deck. It took a little time and a bit of luck, but I finally managed to get the deck reattached.
I then set out on a Northbound course towards WI. After driving for several hours I made roughly 100 miles into GA and decided to stop at this truckstop for something to eat. After eating I began walking back to the truck. It had rained here earlier and there was a bit of GA red clay mud on the pavement that I really didn't notice until my heel hit it, broke traction, and landed me flat on my arse
My bum hip was none too happy with the sudden meeting with the ground. I got myself up with a little assistance from another driver who saw me slip, brushed as much of GA off my behind as I could manage, and limped the rest of the way back to the truck to take a double dose of Aleve.
I guess I'm done driving for today.
