I made my pick up in Ft Lauderdale today. It was quite the adventure. I picked up a truck. That's normally quite easy. Just detach and then drive it right on. Unfortunately this truck doesn't have a power divider lock-out switch. What this does is lock the differential so that power is applied to all four axle ends equally instead of transferring more power to the wheel that is turning the fastest which is the normal way a differential works. Without this lock-out, as soon as the front drive wheel left the ground on the incline up the ramp front of the trailer they would just spin and the rear wheels got no power at all resulting in a spin out condition.
I had to keep backing up and making a run at it in an attempt to get enough momentum to carry the thing forward far enough for the wheels to get a bite and pull the rest of the way onto the trailer, while at the same time being sure the front didn't go off the side one way or the other. It took a bunch of attempts before I finally got it to roll onto the trailer.
I have to pick up a skid loader in Tampa, but between the time it took to get the truck loaded, heavy traffic, rain, and road construction, there was no way I could make it there before they closed today. So I am back home again for tonight, and will pick up the skid loader tomorrow morning.
Well, ok, I could have just made it to Tampa, but I stopped and ate lunch to make sure I couldn't make it.
