A bunch of useless crap
Travels of the past couple of weeks

Whew! Made it home this evening (finally). Today's delivery was a real pip. I hauled a rather odd looking thing from Wisconsin to the coast of North Carolina. It was a steel cylinder about 30 feet long, with fins running along it's length as well as inside of it, and a large flange on one end. I had no idea just what it was for, but that's really not my business. I just haul the stuff.

Well, I called the customer this morning to get directions, and he just said "stop at the convenience store and call, someone will come meet you.". I did, and they did, and I followed them out a winding little dirt road (glad I had a guide) to a small place in the woods. Turns out, this thing was part of a unit used to dry crab meal, whatever that is. Well, the boom needed to lift the thing off my truck wasn't there, and we waited for an hour and a half for it to finally show up. It was a 30 or 40 year old pile of rolling junk that just wasn't up to the task. After a couple of hours of them trying to lift the thing, I told them to just lift it up about 6 inches and I drove out from under it. Of course the boom broke, but at least I was rid of the thing and could drive home. Not my problem.

Let's see, last couple of weeks I've been to: WI, AR, TX, MO, NC, SC, GA, SD, NE. A bunch of touring around, lol.

The texas run was a good one, wound up in Lubbock. I stopped at a little Cherokee trading post in MO, where I bought a very nicely made mesquite wood hiking staff which I plan to make good use of this summer. I also had some very good buffalo meat while visiting there.

All in all, it's been a good couple of weeks, and man am I tired.

I wondered if people who made it their business carrying stuff for other people were particularly interested in what they were carrying... how do you know it's not something that might go against your ethical values? Or is that why you don't ask? Just wondering.

Glad you made it back all right! Get some sleep!

Good thought. I'd be concerned that what I carried was illegal or dangerous.

Nah, we are always curious about these things. Anything hazardous is labeled as such, and just looking at them tells you a lot. The paperwork lists what the items are, but sometimes that just doesn't tell you exactly what it is used for.

dharmagirl: I was in Sioux Falls. Actually, my truck broke down up there and had to be fixed while there. IF I ever get my laptop fixed I'll be able to communicate from the road. *sigh* have to get bills caught up first. darned priorities.
