A bunch of useless crap

Socrates woke me around 6:00 this morning and we headed down to the truckstop for breakfast. As I was putting the truck in the shop for scheduled maintenance I figured I should have something to eat first. You can never tell just how long the shop will take on a given day.

I just pulled the truck into the service bay and locked Socrates in his carrier for the duration. He really hates that and started protesting immediately. Ah well, it's a necessary evil. I closed the sleeper curtain to make it nice and dark so maybe he'll just take a nap until he can be freed again.

At this point I have no idea where I am heading next. Dispatch hasn't yet planned me on anything and won't until they know my truck is ready to roll. Someplace South would suit me just fine.

It's amazingly warm here in WI for this time of year. A week ago it was freezing and yesterday it was in the upper 60s but quite windy. It's pretty comfortable this morning and one needs only a light jacket or shirt sleeves. According to the extended forecast it's supposed to snow Saturday. Hopefully I'll be a long way from here by then.

With any luck they'll have my truck finished in a couple of hours and dispatch will have a good load ready for me. Such is the plan at any rate. Time will tell.

Is this normal maintenance?  Or the bumper incidence in the truck stop parking lot?

With any luck you're out of Wi. this morning,  it's pretty dang chilly now,  a cold front moved into Mn. as winter wants to make it's appearance...

Say,  do you have a "list" of favorite cafes,  truckstops,  places to eat that you could list while "on the road again""???  That would be cool to read

Happy Truckin!

Just regular scheduled maint. Oil change, lube, etc. I still haven't found the time to get it into the body shop.

Not really. I just sort of know where the places are that I like to stop. To be honest none of the big chains are worth stopping at to eat. It's all plastic food. I try to find the little mom & pop places that still serve fresh, nonprocessed food. The place I had breakfast this morning is a good example. It's a small privately owned truckstop that still actually cooks the food.

sleep well Socrates.

I hope you had a big and hearty breakfast then Mason? The weather is a temperamental old man is he not? He just likes to keep you guessing! Enjoy the rest of your day.

Thanks. I was just talking to one of the dispatchers, he came in the shop for a smoke, and he said the boss wants me to go ahead and take the truck to the body shop after the service. I guess it's going to be a "truck day". At least I won't be running around with a bent bumper any more.

I'll probably have to get a room for the night as they had told me they would need to keep the truck over night. I'll have to find something that allows pets and Socrates will just have to put up with the strange surroundings for a night.

I love your stories. I hope you get sent somewhere nice and warm, so I can live vicariously through you. Cold, wet and miserable up here, with snow predicted later in the week. Brr.
Keep warm.

I dropped the truck off at the body shop. The boss picked me up there and took me back to the yard where he gave me the keys to the company mini van. I'm checked into the hotel now.

While Socrates was a bit upset by the strange surroundings he's started to calm down and is even enjoying all of the extra romping room afforded by the hotel room. He's now running around and investigating every corner of the room. I think he likes having the room to run.

If he is any relation to Sally, that is an understatement.

Could be. He's been running and playing since we checked in. He's finally settled down a bit and getting a bite to eat. That means he'll be out like a light in a few minutes.

It was a surprisingly beautiful day here...upper 60's, no clouds, slight breeze...scared the hell out of me.    It was in the 20's last Saturday...that's very odd.

Yeah, the weather is always weird this time of year. If you don't like the weather just wait a minute, it'll change.
